    Bette hesitated a moment. “I’m just wondering who Katie’s father is.”

    "What can I get you to drink? Juice, tea, lemonade?”

    “Lemonade would be great.”

    Bette sat at the kitchen bar with Katie on her lap watching Tina move around the cozy kitchen. In some ways, it reminded Bette of her home in Argentina where everyone met around the kitchen and her mother and aunt were always creating something, when her mother wasn’t creating art.

    Katie started talking to her about school and the next thing Bette remembered after catching sight of Tina’s backside as she bent over was Katie poking her.

    “Don’t you think so, too?” Katie prompted.

    Bette shook her head in confusion.

    “I’m sorry Katie. What did you say?’

    Katie gave an exaggerated sigh, causing a now upright Tina to laugh. “I said that red is prettier than purple.”

    Bette chuckled and looked at Tina. “Well I don’t know but red is definitely pretty on your mom. Did you see her in her dress for the party?”

    Katie looked quickly at her mother. “No. Can I see your dress Mommy?” she asked excitedly.

    “Later sweetie, ok?”

    Katie nodded and then turned back to Bette. “Um so you do think red is prettier than purple ‘cause Lisa says I’m crazy to think that.”

    “Ok yes, you can tell Lisa that I don’t think you’re crazy. Red is better”

    Katie pumped her hand. “Yes!”

    Tina just looked to the heavens, shook her head and shrugged. Then she grabbed some utensils from the drawer. “Sweetie, can you set the table for Mommy?”

    Katie carefully lowered herself off Bette’s lap and took the forks that Bette passed to her and headed for the table just off the kitchen.

    “I love your home.” Bette commented to Tina.

    “How about I give you a tour after dinner? Then we can sit by the pool while Katie has her swim.”

    “Sounds good. I didn’t know you had a pool.”

    Tina gestured to Katie. “Nonnegotiable.” She said.

    Bette smiled knowingly.

    Tina pulled the enchiladas out of the over and carried that and the corn bread over to the table. “Hope you like Mexican. I grew up on it and its an easy please for Katie.”

    3. Love it, just love it. Someone needs to tell Bette about Jody, or Bette needs to ask him. Waiting for Bette to figure out what it is she’s feeling for Tina. She already gets jealous, misses her, hurts,etc., etc.. Someone please turn the lights on.

    7. I hope Nan tells Bette what she overheard so Bette can finally see what a a-hole Jody is. Whether T&B get together or not at least she will get away from him and his controling ways. PPS

    8. Yeah. Bette really needs to make a move soon. I hate reading Tina continually hurt by Bette throwing Jody in her face..so I hope something happens soon to spur Bette to some real action. PPS.

    9. I love this story and hate to go without it. Please don’t stay away long before posting again! I also like the parallel universe-ness of Tina owning the Saab, instead of Bette. You’ve taken the canon and skillfully rearranged the pieces into a story of your own and I’m liking it, a lot! I’m willing to go along at your pace, as their mutual attraction develops. I have to agree with Probie, that if you decided to dump Jody in the next chapter I for one will do a jig or two.Great chapter, geeze is this story good and as I have mentioned before even better when it has one of my favorite sports as its theme… Please please post more often from another of your adoring fans!!

    15. I hope that they are able to get to some spot where they can open up their hearts to one another. jody is a mean bas*ard. Bette deserves much better, besides I kind of wonder about jody. He is always hanging with his club buddies.

    25. YEAH thanks for the post I was so happy to log on this morning and see your name. It’s funny how Bette is in this situation with Jody where she doesn’t read his real motives. I guess you see what you look for. I’m glad Tina is putting Bette’s tournament firt. Can’t wait for the next chapter.

    27. Tina needs to tell Bette about Jodi so she can kick him to the curb. Is Bette related to Manny by chance??? That would be too cool. They would make such a great family. PPS

    28. Ok, I’m reallly tired of Jody, can we get rid of him already. I smell a scandal and prison time for Jody as Bette finds out he’s been embezzling her money(lol). After a quick divorce, Bette can use Tina’s brother as a donor and will find out that she is related to Manuel and therefore is really related to Katie. Whatever, just get rid of Jody.
