    Bette hesitated a moment. “I’m just wondering who Katie’s father is.”

    “I do. Thanks for asking.” Bette said as she followed with the plates and napkins.

    Tina turned and looked at her curiously, trying to interpret her tone.

    Bette shrugged. “Most people hear my accent and assume I automatically like Mexican. If you’re not Cuban or Mexican or even Puerto Rican, they can’t understand how you’re Hispanic.”

    “Really?”

    “Well, maybe I’m a little sensitive but I do get it. When he first met me, Jody assumed I was Mexican.”

    Tina gritted her teeth, looking down as she took a seat to hide her annoyance and wanting nothing more to point out that Jody was a moron anyway.

    “Sweetie, don’t forget to put your napkin in your lap.”

    Katie nodded, carefully positioned it on her lap and then proceeded to grab her milk and not come up for air until it was almost all gone and entirely covering above her lip.

    “Ah, that’s nice.” Tina commented sarcastically and rolled her eyes. Bette burst out laughing at the sight, causing Katie’s milk mustache to spread across her face.

    “I just hope you didn’t swallow your lose tooth with all that milk.” Tina commented, feigning worry.

    Katie’s fingers flew to her top set to make sure her pride and joy was still there, but just hanging on by a thread. “Mommy!” Katie responded angrily.

    Bette could barely breath from laughing. “You’re Mommy is bad, Angel.”

    “She reallly is!” Katie pronounced.

    They started in on dinner. Katie trying not to scoff and mind her manners with company.

    “Wow, maybe I am the stereotype but I love this.”

    “Bette, its just enchiladas. Surely Nan has cooked this for you before.”

    Bette gave her a pointed look. “Why because we’re Hispanic?”

    Tina looked horrified. “No, no just cause its quite common.”

    Bette grinned. “I’m just kidding with you. I thought I would give Katie some back.” Katie looked from Bette to Tina and laughed when she saw that her mother was laughing. “Ha. That’s a good one, Bette.” Katie congratulated, having no idea what they were talking about but happy to have a co conspirator and to see her Mommy laugh so much.

    Bette, guess what.”

    1. Hey RC, good to have more chapters from you. You really like the slow burn. It is so tantalizingly to have both gals want the same thing and yet unable to act on it.     3. Love it, just love it. Someone needs to tell Bette about Jody, or Bette needs to ask him. Waiting for Bette to figure out what it is she’s feeling for Tina. She already gets jealous, misses her, hurts,etc., etc.. Someone please turn the lights on.

    7. I hope Nan tells Bette what she overheard so Bette can finally see what a a-hole Jody is. Whether T&B get together or not at least she will get away from him and his controling ways. PPS

    8. Yeah. Bette really needs to make a move soon. I hate reading Tina continually hurt by Bette throwing Jody in her face..so I hope something happens soon to spur Bette to some real action. PPS.

    9. I love this story and hate to go without it. Please don’t stay away long before posting again! I also like the parallel universe-ness of Tina owning the Saab, instead of Bette. You’ve taken the canon and skillfully rearranged the pieces into a story of your own and I’m liking it, a lot! I’m willing to go along at your pace, as their mutual attraction develops. I have to agree with Probie, that if you decided to dump Jody in the next chapter I for one will do a jig or two.Great chapter, geeze is this story good and as I have mentioned before even better when it has one of my favorite sports as its theme… Please please post more often from another of your adoring fans!!

    15. I hope that they are able to get to some spot where they can open up their hearts to one another. jody is a mean bas*ard. Bette deserves much better, besides I kind of wonder about jody. He is always hanging with his club buddies.

    25. YEAH thanks for the post I was so happy to log on this morning and see your name. It’s funny how Bette is in this situation with Jody where she doesn’t read his real motives. I guess you see what you look for. I’m glad Tina is putting Bette’s tournament firt. Can’t wait for the next chapter.

    28. Ok, I’m reallly tired of Jody, can we get rid of him already. I smell a scandal and prison time for Jody as Bette finds out he’s been embezzling her money(lol). After a quick divorce, Bette can use Tina’s brother as a donor and will find out that she is related to Manuel and therefore is really related to Katie. Whatever, just get rid of Jody.
