Love in Control – Chapter XIV – Capricorns, Leos, Sagittarians … and Janet King

“I LOVE that song!” Tina exclaimed, pulling on Bette’s arm. “I remember Logan and his friends playing it back in the day!”

They jumped into the pulsing crowd singing along with the DJ. The lyrics to the songs were flashing in the opposite wall of Aerin’s cavernous living room.

Scorpios, Virgos, Aquarians, Oh searching for the sign that goes with their own sign of the zodiac.

“We should’ve told Logan about this thing,” Bette half-shouted into Tina’s ear as everyone around them continued to sing and dance to the song.

“This song is dope, right?” they heard one of Alice and Shane’s friends who’d been dancing near them shout to the other friends their LA friends had lassoed and brought to the impromptu party in Aerin’s penthouse atop a venerable pre-war Central Park West building.   Good thing the multiple reinforcements built over the years since original construction made for virtually noise-free parties, thus Aerin’s blue-blood neighbors in the floors below had never had occasion to complain, ever.

“You’re right! This thing is getting to be really awesome. Not too late to call Logan, I should think,” Tina answered. She turned around quickly to ask Aerin who she knew had been dancing nearby, as she’d also jumped into the crowd right behind Bette and Tina. Bette couldn’t hear the conversation but she saw Aerin nod eagerly in response.

Tina signaled Bette that she wanted to step away and look for a quiet spot, so that she could call Logan.

Bette nodded her understanding and then went willingly with Aerin, who’d grabbed her elbow to guide her to a group of their LA friends who’d been dancing near the middle of the crowd. What had started out as a smallish group of people of those who’d been in Tiler’s Brooklyn townhouse and a few others grew quickly to include Bette and Tina’s friends visiting from LA, who’d decided to drag the people they were supposed to be partying with in the West Village, and others friends of Cindy and Cris, Tiler’s parents, whom Cris had called.

“And now … “ the DJ intoned as she smoothly mixed in the chords of the next song. The crowd whooped again as another 70s disco gem came on.   Ooohh ooohh oohh, the backing vocals sang out as distinctive trumpets blared in the background.
