    Love’s Recovery

“Lovely,” Tina smiled as she stretched, willing her body to function so she could start her day.  “Just don’t get dog food on the floor!”  Tina smiled, happily playing along, as she watched Angelica turn and begin to exit the room.

“Mama T,” Angelica snickered, “they don’t eat dog food, they eat waffles!”  Angelica shook her head as she placed a gentle kiss on the stuffed dog in her arms.  “You’re so silly.”

Kit sat in her office, thankful for the opportunity to have a few silent moments to herself before the morning rush encompassed The Planet.  She opened the desk drawer, taking out the envelope she had thrown in there as a means to hide it from herself and banish it from her mind.  However, just as she knew it would, the time to deal with it had quickly approached.  She slowly took the envelope out, opening it up, and running her fingers over the almost perfect penmanship that created her name.

“I just don’t know what to do,” Kit mumbled as she blinked back tears that threatened to cascade down her cheeks.

Her eyes read the note once more, the simple request to meet with her own stepmother, Maxine.  She hadn’t spoken to her since after Provocations, when she convinced Maxine that the best way to honor Bette in her life was to remain out of it.  When Maxine walked out on Melvin while he was at work and Bette was at school it was Kit who had to break the news to her family that Maxine was gone.  Melvin had shut down, never speaking of her again, never looking for her to make amends with their relationship.  Bette’s reaction was completely different, years were spent as a young adult trying to track her down, but it appeared that Maxine was brilliant not only at art, but at remaining hidden.   As her thoughts went back to that day Maxine left, the last time she had talked her, her tears spilled over with no end in sight.

“You can’t just leave!” Kit had argued, “We need you here.  We love you!”

“Love isn’t enough when you’re married to Melvin Porter!”  Maxine had screamed back.  At the time, Kit hadn’t understand what that simple sentence meant.  Now, after all these years desperate for his attention and love before he died, Kit knew the meaning all too well.

    1. Great Update!!! I had a feeling it was going to be Maxine. I feel so sorry for Kit. It is so wrong for Maxine to put Kit in the middle of her and Bette. Thank you PPS

    2. Nice set up for story/drama to come. Wow…Maxine is doing a painting of Tibette from Provocations…oh dear…that is reopening up a scar. Angie and her “dogs” – way cute! Can’t wait for next round!

    3. Hey Gumby, Interesting concept as Maxine has been out of Bette’s life for so long it is difficult to imagine what benefits it might offer if she c comes back.Kit is in a tricky position and treading carefully. There is so much heartache around Maxine’s departure that now might just be a good time to sort things out for once and all and then move forward.I can’t wait to read move.Thank you for this great beginning.Your Loyal Fan and Friend.
