In her bedroom, Bette placed the last remaining items that she was donating to the Dress for Success organization. Power suits and tailored shirts she once loved were now going to help women get the jobs of their dreams, maybe the same dreams that Bette once had. Bette stood and rubbed her lower back as she looked around her room that was filled with boxes either labeled “Tina”, “To Sort”, “Bette” or “To Be Donated”. The walls of her bedroom where now void of framed paints and photos and the art pieces she had displayed by the windows were now either shrink wrapped for bubble-wrapped and awaiting transport to the auction house. Paintings, covered with protective cloth, leaned against the wall near the Tina’s closet.  Bette walked over to the bed that she shared with Tina and stripped the sheets and placed them in the hamper in the corner of the room.  Bette glanced down at a box that contained some of Tina’s clothes and removed a floral shirt, the same floral shirt Tina wore when she told Bette the news about being pregnant. Bette smiled at the memory and recalled how they made love that night, soft and tender, with promises of forever. Who knew that eight weeks later Tina would miscarry and it was the beginning of Bette’s downfall. Bette brought the floral shirt to her nose and inhaled Tina’s scent that still lingered and placed the shirt back in the box and closed it. Bette scanned the bedroom for the last time and left her beloved home that she now considered a house.

            Bette left the house and carried her two large suitcases to the waiting car and told the driver to head to the Planet. She had called her sister Kit and told her that she needed to speak with her before she opened the Planet. The driver headed to the Planet and Bette sat back in the back seat and closed her eyes briefly before removing the large envelope from her purse and checking the contents to make sure she had everything.

            Bette knocked on the door and smiled when she saw her sister.  In the past few months she and Kit had gotten closer and had dinner together almost every night.
