“I can’t believe this is happening. I never thought I would see the day when Bette Porter gave up on the woman she loved.”

“I can’t do any more Kit.  I don’t have the fight anymore. Tina doesn’t want me. Alice barely talks to me.  Dana and I exchange emails and aside from you, Shane is the only one who has remained objective.”

“What about your job at the CAC?”

“What job? The CAC bought out my contract two weeks ago. They provided me with a nice package and major medical and dental for six months.”

“Ah, when did this happen and why is it that I’m finding out only now?”

Bette picked at her food. “About two ago. I didn’t want you to try and talk me out of moving.”

Kit moved closer to Bette and placed her hand on her sister’s shoulder. “There are other women out there, you know.”

“I know there are other women out there, Kit, but Tina has my heart. My heart wants Tina.”

“Then why? Fight for her.”

“I can’t fight for someone who doesn’t to want fight back.” Bette stood and removed an envelope from her purse. “Can you please give this letter to her? Try to get her to read it. It’s my last letter to her.”

“Can you at least tell me where you’re going or is that a secret?”

“New York. I’m going to New York.” Bette walked over to Kit and pulls her in for a tight embrace. “I’ll call you or email you once I’m settled. I don’t know how long that will take, but don’t worry about me.”

“How can I not worry about you? You’re my baby sister and I love you.”

“I love you too, Kit. Please don’t be mad at Tina for my leaving town. It was my decision.”

“I’ll try not to. What should I tell her if she asks?”

“Tell her to read my letter and give this to her too.” Bette handed Kit the keys to the house.

Sometime later at the Planet.

Tina laughed as she followed Shane, Alice and Dana to the usual table and sat down in her usual seat next to Bette’s old one.
