    Melvin, Bette, Tina and Kit

“Hey … it’s so small I can hardly pick it up.” He says with shaking hands. “Katie, why don’t we have dinner here tonight?”

“Sure, if you want to.” Kit still can’t get over how congenial her father has been acting towards her.

“I’d like to try out your Chef, and your sister here has a prior engagement with Ms. Kennard.”

“Daddy, do you think you could call her Tina? That’s her name. Tina. For the millionth time, her name is Tina. How long have you known her?”

“Very well. Tina. Will Benjamin be able to join us?”

“You know, I’m just going to leave you two to plan your evening.”

“Bette.” Kit says the name with a warning in her voice knowing what’s coming.

“What’s wrong?” Melvin asks oblivious to how upset he has made his daughter.

“What’s wrong is that you have no regard for what I’m going through, Daddy. None, and until you can acknowledge that my relationship of 8 years was every bit as meaningful as your marriage to my mother, until you can see that my heart is broken because I failed the woman I love, perhaps in the same way that you failed my mother then I really have nothing else to say, except you know … I am not giving up. I’m not going to end up sad and alone and full of regret.”

Bette pulls two tickets for the Disney Hall concert out of her purse and throws them on the table. Maybe Benjamin can take you she says before storming out of the cafe. When she gets to her car, she calls Tina.

“Hey Tee. Do you still want to get together?”

Tina could hear that Bette was upset. “Babe what happened? I thought you were having breakfast with Kit and Melvin.”

“I just can’t stand to be around them right now. Can I see you?”

“Sure. Come on over. I’ll fix breakfast here.”

“Are you sure? I don’t mind taking you out.”

“Yes, I’m sure. It’s probably better for me to stick close to home anyway. I’m having the dress delivered for tonight and I’m not sure exactly what time they will be here.”

“OK. Thank you Tee. I’ll see you in about 30 minutes.”

    1. Hey BAT2012, i didn’t comment on the previous chapters, but i still read and enjoy this story.

I look forward how you are gonna try to change Melvin. I believe he really loves Bette, but is one big emotional handicapt man and very set in his opinions and views.

It is good to see Bette and Tina are able to support each other and hopefully they will find a way back to a healthy, strong and loving relationship.

Bette is right about Helena “fucking ” Peabody and i look forward to the moment Bette will kick her ass. Bette deals with her in a way that i admire.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. Aww, Melvin just ruined my morning by being his usual overly grumpy a**hole self, just mean and hateful. I can hardly wait to see how you can make a positive change in Melvin, that will be a bloody miracle. Bette was very right in what she said to Kit, about melvin liking benjamin or the idea of him before even meeting him; that he wouldn’t think anything was wrong with her being with a married man because of his own ideas about the subject. Thanks for posting.
