That tall gentleman, Sonny, my husband, I would die for him and would for me. I worship the ground he stands on. Ohh, I gave him a hard time, he worked very hard to get my heart. But once it was his, it was his to keep. Why are you smiling?”

Melvin looked at his daughter. And his smile grew bigger.

“You said you made him work hard to get to your heart? You sound like your mother.”

Melvin told Kit what he had to do before Kit’s mother let him have a piece of her heart. The story was funny at parts and that’s how Marina found them.

“Goodmorning mister Porter, that’s a good thing, hearing you laugh. Goodmorning Kit, how did you guys sleep?”

Both Porters greeted Marina back. She asked them what they wanted for breakfast. They said what they wanted and in the mean time, Kit would help her father taking a bath.

While having breakfast Kit told her father that she believed that nothing bad happened to Bette. She told him that she had that feeling because of the letter she received from Candice. Kit showed her father the letter and told him what was going on. She told him more about Sonny and his parents. And that they always talked to her and her hatred towards her father.

Melvin smiled and listened never interrupted Kit.

Sonny’s parents never tried to push her to contact him. And now that she was here, she was sure that it made her mother-in-law more than happy. She also told her father that she has a baby boy. That he was a grandfather. The smile that appeared on Melvin’s face was priceless. She was about to tell him some stories about his grandson when her phone went. It was Sonny telling her that he arrived at the Juke Joint and that he talked to Candace and what kind of agreement they made.

When she hung up, she told her father what Sonny told her. While she was talking to Sonny, Melvin watched Kit closely. He could see that she wasn’t exaggerating, she truly loved Sonny.

Both Kit and her father agreed that it was meant to be, that the time was there to make amends.
