    The one where Bette replies to Tina’s question

    Bette nodded “I think that comes with age “

    “Yeah –  you soon find out that all that romantic mush is just that – nonsense. The truth is that a great relationship comes from love and respect and yes – knowing what the other persons flaws are and not expecting miracles or for the other person to always know the right thing to say or do. When my sister showed up and I went into melt down – you didn’t know how to deal with a situation that was so unexpected – you just held me – you knew I was panicking and scared and just out of control and you just didn’t freak out – you just where there for me. “

    “Looking back at that now – after the month or so that it has been – what strikes me is that you were too afraid to tell the old Bette “

    “I didn’t know how you would have dealt with it – I think it had more to do with my feelings about what happened – and I was worried about how the likes of Alice would react “

    Bette snorted which made Tina laugh – she lent over and kissed her future wife

    “Its okay- I have gradually come to see things through your eyes – you don’t blame me – I was always scared that you would “

    “I know I could be critical but I would never have blamed you for what your father did”

    “I was projecting my feelings and fears into you and that was unfair. “

    “I think  that now I know –  I can see your past differently – like maybe how you did back down to me “

    “You have always been the least aggressive person I know “

    “Good “ Bette replied “I know that the violence that I saw from my father directed towards my mother and other women was enough to make me learn to control my anger. “

    “Your anger has always been internal “

    “Yes  – yes it has “

    Their pieces of pie arrived and Bette ordered another two drinks – she knew the bill for this meal was going to be huge but it didn’t matter  –  this was no ordinary meal – this was special and it deserved to be remembered and celebrated. Tina took the spoon and was soon tucking into her pie

    5. Great update. Angie will be over the moon with happiness that her mother’s are engaged to be married. And especially since she has been advocating for the marriage since learning that the legislation was a possibility for NY state. She will be bouncing off the walls. Loved the update. Thanks.
