New York Minute – chapter 7
“No “ Bette smiled “Look I promised not to go over the top but do you really expect me not to want to buy her a few books “
“As long as it’s a few “ Tina said suspecting that her definition of “ a few books “ was not Bette’s. Bette had always been generous and having a four year old around was too much for her to resist some spoiling.
“I’ll buy you some books as well “ Bette said smiling “I don’t want you to feel left out of things”
Tina shook her head “You are bad “
“Yeah but you like me “
“I do – I like you A LOT “
Tina moved to Bette and kissed her on the lips
“I like you in very bad ways as well “ Tina said “ That meal was fantastic – so are you “

It was 9:30 – Bette and Tina had been watching a movie. Instead of picking a second title. Bette switched the TV off and they sat down. Tina moved so they were facing one another at opposite ends of the sofa with their legs together.
“Do you remember us doing much talking about our feelings and problems when we lived together ?”
“No “ Bette said smiling “I couldn’t – I was so repressed and desperate to keep my feelings under some sort of control “
“Not now ?”
“No – it tends to mean that I cry more and sometimes I have a drama queen moment but its tame compared to how it was in the past. I guess in the past my emotions were very up and down -very extreme – now they are much more within a range. I laugh more and I cry more and I think that’s probably healthy “
“You seem easier to be with “ Tina said gently
“Oh God I am – totally. I have a tee-shirt that I wear for the gym and running and its says in very bold letters “ WORK IN PROGRESS “ that’s what I see myself as “
“Are you the complete package yet ?”
“I am a better person “ Bette said “Definitely gone are the fits of rage at myself and the whole world “
“Do you like yourself ?” Tina asked. Tina had long thought that Bette Porter’s greatest flaw was self loathing which she hide behind a wall of arrogance and conceit. Bette nodded

Perfect! Your storytelling is amazing.
I want them back together too!! Thanks fot the chapter !:)
I look for this story every day. I love that the 2 of them are being so open with each other about their feelings and hopes. Thanks for the update and please keep them coming! :)
And I want you back together as well !! I’m surprised though that Bette has not yet found the guts to ask Tina about the man she’s been seeing ( at least, if we are to trust Helena’s words at the beginning of this story ). I mean, I guess she probably feels she has no right to ask her that, but at the same time, I feel like qhe must be dying to know what has actually happened and if Tina got back to men at some point that must say something, right ? Something that these two will need to discuss at one point or another. And somehow I feel like this would be the perfect time for Tina to open up to Bette about that… At any rate, this was a great chapter, Ally, and you got me totally enthralled with this story…. As usual !
I read this story the first time out and still look forward to your updates and am just as captivated by it.
Yes! yes! yes! Just absolutely brilliant. Thank you for this story.
