“I need another coffee “ Bette said “Babe ?”

“I think coffee and ice cream “ Tina said

That made Angie look up “ Can I have ice cream ?”

“You wanted pumpkin pie “

“I like ice cream more “

“I know that – Bette ?”

“Ice cream it is –  what would you like sprinkled on the ice cream ?”

“Nuts “ Angie decided.

Bette got up and headed into the kitchen again. Tomorrow they would go for a long walk in the park – but it was Thanksgiving – there was no harm in over -eating today of all days. Tina followed her into the kitchen to make a start on the coffee

“That was easy “ Tina said

“She’s a remarkable kid “

“Do you think she’s okay with it ?”

“She will be as long as she doesn’t think that they don’t like that we like girls. She does understand that people do not always understand gay people “

“What she said about the boy in her class “ Tina said “What did you think ?”

“I think if he’s got two dads then he is probably just repeating some nonsense that he has heard. She didn’t seem worried – we can both read her Tina – she’s utterly adjusted about having two gay mommies. The school is probably one of the best we could have sent her to for teaching her tolerance. She’s not ashamed of having two mommies – she loves us and she knows that she is loved and wanted. That is a hell of a lot more than I felt at her age “

Tina nodded “Yeah – I know  – when do you think we should get them through here ?”

“Depends on their work doesn’t it  – would you rather get them here at a weekend or during the week when she would meet them after school ?”

“I think the weekend would be best – we could go shopping and go for a walk with them in the park. “

Bette got out the ice cream bowls and looked at Tina

“She will be fine with them as long as they are fine with her and as long as she doesn’t sense any tension “
