    No Me Ames; #15

She kissed me, her warm lips on mine sent tingles down my spine, “I’ll miss you,” I whispered as we parted.

“Have a great day at work, baby,” she replied, “And tell Alice that I said, ‘Hi’…”

“Anything in particular you want for dinner tonight?” I asked.

“I bet Becky wants meatloaf…again…” she replied with a small laugh.

“Yes, for the third time this week.”

“That’s coz you make it so good.”

“Godma! Godma!” Becky called out as she skipped gleefully into the kitchen where Alice was standing, mixing a bowl of sauce. She immediately stopped upon seeing her Goddaughter and bent to pick her up.

“Woah!” she joked, “You’re getting so big, you’re going to break Godma’s back soon!”

Becky laughed and kissed Alice on the cheek.

“Hey Al,” I piped in as I dropped my bags down and moved to put on my apron, “I’m so sorry I got back late from picking Becky up. The babysitter called in sick today so I had to bring her in with me.”

“Aw,” Alice replied, engrossed with Becky who was tugging gently at her hair, “It’s alright, you know I love having her around.”

I smiled gratefully, “Thanks. Becky, come on, come over here and play with your crayons ok?”

Becky hopped down and ran towards me. I sat her down on my desk, keeping her busy with crayons and paper before walking towards Alice.

“Where’s Bette today?” she asked, turning back to finish the sauce she was making.

    “The gallery. Today’s Tuesday remember?”

Alice shook her head, laughing, “Sometimes I forget…how is she…”

“She’s good,” I replied, “The usual you know? At least the medication is working now…hopefully. We’re keeping optimistic.”

“Of course,” briefly turning to look at Becky, she continued, “Sometimes I can’t believe that Becky is already five years old.”

“I know, I can’t believe it either,” I said, “She’s becoming so much like Bette in the small ways, you know? The way she sleeps, the way she loves her cereal and milk separately…just small distinct thing.”

“I think that’s beautiful,” Alice replied.

I nodded in response, looking at my daughter who was engrossed in her drawing. She loved art as much as Better, another small similarity the both of them shared. The funny thing is that Bette never forced art on her shoulders, Becky just naturally picked it up.

As much as I love these two characters in this story, and want everything to be perfect in reality nothing ever is,, and you have written it on how you see them and that is what counts. I loved this chapter cause there was love, love, friendship and then pain.

    6. Dang euni you’re killing me here. I love this story, but it’s truly depressing the hell out me. I hate to say this but will it be over soon? Because I don’t know how much my heart can take. You’ve done an excellent job in writing this. I just find it hard to read at times. But if you write more of it, I’ll read it. Thanks for the update.

    7. Well…do I dare say I’m glad the story isn’t ending soon? Eeks… I guess I’ll say I’m happy we will be able to read your incredible writing/story longer – despite the gosh awful pain inherent in the topic. I hope Helena can hang in there for Bette… It has to be so unbearably painful.
