“Is Becky home yet?” I managed to ask.

“She just got back about two hours ago, she’s doing her homework.”

    “That’s good.”

    “She needs you, Helena, don’t…”

“I don’t need you to lecture me about this right now, Mummy…please…”

“Fine,” she replied as I felt her get up off the bed, “But I cannot take over your responsibilities forever, you need to do what Bette said. You have to live. This just isn’t the way to go about it.”

She left and I buried my head into my pillow again.

I needed her, couldn’t they see how much I needed her. I didn’t know how to go through this life without her.

    ◊◊◊

I heard a knock on my door, I didn’t respond, thinking that it might be Mummy again.

“Helena?” someone called out, “It’s Tina. Can I come in?”

The door creaked open as she walked in and sat beside me, “How are you today? I thought I’d come by after work to check on you.”

    I shrugged, “I’m just tired.”

She pushed my hair away from my face, “I know all this is hard for you, I know that you’re trying…”

“You know what this feels like? Really? It feels as if a part of me has been ripped away, it’s not just the pain anymore; it’s the bloody emptiness…the yearning to hear her voice, the desperation to feel her touch…to hear her voice. She’s gone…why is this happening?”

    “Hels…”

“No, it’s not fair, T! We were supposed to be together forever…we were supposed to grow old and grey. Two old women and a bunch of cats and Grandkids; that was what it was suppose to be for us. She was my Soul Mate…my Soul Mate…” the tears began to bubble up from inside me again, rolling down my cheeks; I carelessly brushed them away, “I’m so sick of crying, but…I can’t do anything…to bring her back…”

Tina pulled me close to her in a tight embrace, “Shhh, its ok to cry…its ok…I’m here…”

    “I don’t…don’t know anything…anymore…”

“Helena,” she said, “The only way that this is going to get better is if you get up off this bed, take a shower, and brush your teeth…and live your life. Take care of your beautiful girl; let her help with your healing. And go to work, talk to Alice, have dinner with us every now and then…and slowly…slowly, this pain will become less intense. It will become easier…I can’t promise when…but I know that it will.”

    1. OMG Euni, I have tears streaming down my face…this chapter was definitely a three hankie one. Thank goodness Tina was able to help Helena start the process of grieving for Bette. Tasha may be able to really understand Helena’s pain. I hope Helena is able to heal. I can’t wait to see where you take the story from here…

    2. “Mummy not coming home anymore, but I’m here, you still have me here. And I’ll take care of you Mama. This just broke my heart. And then you put the icing on the cake so to speak with “The tears trickled down my cheek as my fingers dug into the dirt. Now I find myself crying like a baby. You’ve did an excellent job kiddo. If your skills in writing this story is any indication of what you may accomplish in life. Then school should be no problem for you. I can see you going to the moon and back!

    3. Time heals a lot of wounds,The fact you lost your soul Mate leaves a hollowness that will always remain empty, The touch,,the smells, they will always remain. Sometimes when the door is open at a certain time. You look up wanting to see the smiling face and its a friend. In your bed its cold and empty, yet you get up every morning and go about your daily life. thank God for children and family and friends. thanks

    4. it still hurts. could not stop crying, my heart is broken. How hard it is to lose who you love and loves you back? It will get better but you will always remember and miss her Helena.

    5. well done, the way you capturedbthe emotion was amazing!! I think I am still in shock…but glad that H is getting back in motion…geez…I am still sad…can you write in a long lost twin sister for B to bring her back or will she have a guest appearance like Dana did as a guiding light…anyway, yet again WELL DONE!!!

    6. I know from my own experience how elena feels right now. when you have to burry someone so dear to you, someone whom you loved so much, who was your soulmate it feels as if they burry a part of you as well.

    7. I caught up on this story last night and had to come back in and comment. Great story, hard to read, but impossible to put down. I don’t come to tears very often, but this one did it, pulls at the heartstrings.

    8. Its weird with Bette gone but…I just hope Hels dont die of a broken heart and shes there for many more years with Rebekah. And now she has Tasha to talk to someone to actually relate to, things many get easier through time.
