Of Angels and Demons Chapter 5

Alice sat in the car watching people walk into the Planet. She could hear the music from the live band blasting through the walls of the building. She looked over at Lizzy and couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. She looks so young, Alice thought, I wonder what happened.

    “Hello, Alice?”

Alice shook her head. “Huh, what?”

    “Can we go in now?”

“Uh,” Alice looked back at the Planet, “yeah, sure. But…”

“But what?” Lizzy looked at Alice quizzically. When Alice looked at her, she new something was wrong. “Hey, what’s wrong?

“Nothing,” Alice said trying, but failing miserably, to hide the fact that she was crying.

“Nothing, huh?” Lizzy paused for a second. “Okay, meet me in there.” Alice heard Lizzy open her down and close it. When Alice looked back at where Lizzy was sitting; she wasn’t there. Alice let out a loud sigh and then the tears started pouring out. “I can’t go in there.”

    “Why not?”

“Fuck!” Alice jerked her head to where the voice came from, Lizzy was back in her spot. “Where did you come from?” Alice said, trying to wipe the tears away as fast as possible.

“I’ve been here.” Alice shot Lizzy a confused look. “You forget I’m dead, Alice, I can go invisible whenever I want to. I just don’t do it that often, though, it takes up too much energy.”

    “You pretended to leave?”

“Yeah. I know from experience that some humans don’t like to discuss their feelings with others, so I do that from time to time to find out what’s wrong. Now, why can’t you go in there?”

Alice looked at Lizzy with red, puffy eyes that had tears ready to flow out and all of a sudden Lizzy was sorry was sorry she had asked.

“It’s just…it’s just I can’t look at all my friends.” Alice took a deep breath. “It’s just too painful to know I’ll never see them again.”

“You’ll be able to see them.”

    “What?”

“But they won’t be able to see you.” When Alice looked back at the building Lizzy quickly said, “Okay, I’m ready to party, now ‘bout you?”

“Yeah let’s go,” Alice said and Lizzy jumped out of the car.
