Our First Christmas…Chapter 2
“Okay, you wanna know just how sad I was then. You wanna know how I cried myself to sleep for months because not only did my mother not love me enough to stay with me, but she didn’t even like me enough to at least wait until after Christmas. You wanna know how every year after that I got a single present from Melvin and half the time he wasn’t even there to give it to me. You wanna know how I spent most of my childhood alone, without anything but conditional love from my father. Is that what you wanna know?” She’s a little winded and staring at me with defiant eyes just daring me to say yes. Daring me to love her enough to deal with all her emotional baggage.
“Yes I wanna know that, because I love you and I wanna help you and comfort you and make you understand that I will never leave you.”
We are both staring at each other, unsure of our next move, unsure of what we can say without setting the other person off. She suddenly turns her back to me and walks towards the window. I want to follow her and touch her and hold her in my arms, but I just stand there staring at her back. I don’t know how she’s feeling right now and I don’t want to push her away. When she finally speaks her voice is calm and laced with a hint of sadness.
“I’m sorry for how I treated you. I know it was bad. I just didn’t know how to deal with what I was feeling and I’d never had to share that with someone else before. Of course I’m sad that you are going away for Christmas, but I understand you wanting to be with your family. It’s just that…well…” I can feel her hesitate, she’s being so open right now and I know how hard that is for her. I will her to continue, to let me know what she’s feeling. “…I guess it just that you’re the first women I’ve ever been in love with and if Christmas is about spending time with your family, then I guess for me, that’s you.”
“Oh Bette, baby….” I want to tell her I feel that too and that I think of her as my family and that if I could think of any other way for this arrangement to work I would happily do it. “I feel that way too baby, I swear I do. And I wish I could stay or that you could come with me but you know how my parents already feel about you and I don’t want them to resent you for keeping their daughter away at Christmas. And I want them to accept of you eventually because I plan on being with you for a long, long time and as much as I know I shouldn’t need it, I still want their approval. I’m so sorry baby.” I have tears streaming down my face, but I still haven’t approached her. I’m so unsure of if she wants or needs me to hold her as bad as I need her right now.
“I know T, I know” She finally turns to me and I can see her eyes glistening with tears. “Just promise me you’ll come back.”
My heart breaks as I rush into her arms, both of us burying our faces in the others neck. I feel her shaking as she sobs, my whole body rocking along with her. I am so sad for her and for myself at this moment, but also relieved that we have at least started the journey to fixing this problem of ours. I hold her face in both my hands and brush her damp cheeks with my thumbs trying to remove some of the excess moisture. I gaze deeply into her eyes willing her to see just how much I love her when I offer a simple answer to her heartfelt plea.
“Always.”

That was fantastic. Tina was right in holding her own against Bette, and poor Bette that totally sucks. Maybe Tina could go to her parents but surprise Bette by getting there before she wakes up Christmas morning. Dealing with families is always tuff, but I’m with the others if mine hadn’t been accepting, they’s loose. Thank God they have no problem hanging with me and my friends, they even invite them to all the family functions.
Marvelous story, wonderful chapter…yay!
Tee’s reason for not staying is a bit lame. Which one is more important to Bette, Tee or her parents?
What an emotional chappy! Way to go Tina for sticking to your guns. I’m glad that she didn’t let Bette push her away. There’s no way Tina can leave Bette alone for Christmas now! I agree with Lamentamini, if Tina’s family doesn’t approve, f*** em! Can’t wait for the next one.
great read! Well written.
OMG, that’s great. continue pls. love ur story
Damn that just sad and poor Bette, and glad she open up to Tina and let see what’s next, thanks!
I feel sorry for Bette. If Tina really feels that way she should stay with Bette or take her with her.
So emotionally charged and sad. Bette finally opened up to Tina about her lonely and sad childhood. Very well written, filled with lots of passion and love. Thanks for the update, please post soon.
Very good and well written chapter, so raught with emotions. I am glad that Bette was able to open up to Tina and they worked their way thru it, but it seems that Tina has put herself between “a rock and a hard place”. Plwase post again soon.
I totally agree with allyemmerson…that was one hell of a chapter, so emotionel and loving. So important that they are communicating about this and their feelings. Please post more and I will definitely read…
That was so sad but I am sooo glad they can confront the probablem.. Tina needs to either stay or tell her parents Bette is coming with her.. Post soon Great story..
heartbreaking and beautiful…pls post soon
what a wonderful chapter. I think T should haave a change of heart about the approval of the parents. she should tell them that Bette is her best friend and either she comes with her or Tina stays home!
that was one hell of a chapter — so well written and full of love and emotion. i’m glad Bette opened up to T
this is really emotional and heartbreaking…in a good way though…they are both so full of love, it’s incredible…thank you for this
Great chapter. Looking forward to more.
Oh my. I think if my family didn’t like my partner because of gender, I’d just tell them to fuck off and stay with my love. Please post again soon!
OMG that’s so sad. . .she can’t leave now! She should take bette with her! her parents need to find out someday. . .PLEASE POST SOON!
Tina can’t leave Bette after a discussion like that, can she? You gotta stay with your woman or take her with you. Tina needs to figure out that Bette is now her immediate family and should come first.
