    Our first Christmas

As Tina sat alone in her apartment, wrapped in blanket, her conversation with Bette earlier that day ran through her mind. Bette seemed to be pulling away from her and she couldn’t figure out why. These last eight months together had been like a dream. She’d never connected with someone on a emotional or physical level the way she did with Bette and yet here they were at what was supposed to be the happiest time of the year and Bette was beginning to shut her out.

    “Bette Porter.”

“Hey baby, how’s your day been?”

“Hectic as usual, did you need something?” Tina was confused by the short, harsh response; yet it is the kind of response she’d been getting for the last week or so.

“I was just wondering if I could cook you dinner tonight. Maybe help you relax a little?” Despite the coolness, she was trying to be optimistic, determined not the let Bette shut her out.

“I don’t think I’m going to be out of here until late tonight. We should probably do it some other time.” Bette continued her coolness, avoiding seeing Tina as she had done twice this week already.

“Fine. Are we even going to see each other before I leave for North Caroline? It’s only three days away remember. Or do you even care.” Tina’s frustration had finally hit it’s limit and she was no longer willing to take anymore of Bette’s *****.

“Of course I care, I’m not the one whose taking off remember.”

“And just what’s that supposed to mean?” Tina’s voice was escalating with each word that passed her lips.

“Never mind, I’ll call you tomorrow and we’ll get together. Bye.” And she was gone before Tina could even respond. She stared at the phone, the dial tone ringing harshly in her ears. She was fighting which emotion to deal with first. Anger, confusion and a little bit of sadness all thrown in the mix. She got up and began to pace, trying to decipher the hidden messages in the two minute dialogue she just shared with Bette

After an hour of intense internal debate, she finally relented and called Bette’s oldest friend and the only person she knew with a little bit of insight into her mind.

    2. Welcome back… im lovin this story already…no surprise there tho!Anyway your title is just fine cause the story is just great,i could totally understand Bettes hurt at Tina going away tho its hard on Tina too! it always is the 1st christmas of having to make that choice between partner and family… so im really looking forward to more thanks good to cya posting again…

    3. Good to see you post again. The Christmas season creates stress for many people, as we are pulled in various directions under the guise of ‘quality time’. I look forward to seeing how you continue the story.

    4. I’m not sure of the back story on these too, but if Tina’s family is aware and accepting of her sexual orientation then she should invite Bette to come with her. Tina has family and tradition on her side, Bette missed a lot of that. That would be a great gift for Tina to share with Bette. If going to NC isn’t an option, then have a Christmas before you leave and do something really special for New Year’s. Tina shouldn’t give up family just to be with her girlfriend, it could create resentment down the line, like Bette took her away from the family. I truly enjoyed reading this, thanks.

    5. glad to see u are writing again. I think one is a great start, with lots of possible avenues. Bette does need an ass kicking, with love…..post soon please

    6. welcome back… i think tina should call her parents and say either shes sick or something has come up at work and she can’t make it… and then she should get that tree and pick up bette and go and decorate and make love under the christmas tree… hmmmmmmmmm thats sounds lovely… please continue

    7. Glad to see you back. Really enjoying this story. I kind of like Amanda’s idea. SO sad that Bette’s mom left her during this time of year…talk about childhood trauma. Please continue.
