    Our first Christmas

“I think we may have found the root of the problem.” Alice said in her best Freud voice. “Bette has a thing about Christmas. I probably shouldn’t be telling you this, ***** I probably should even know about this, but her mother left around this time of year. She always seems to get a little uptight around now.

“God, what a horrible thing to do to a child! Poor Bette and to be stuck alone with only Melvin. No wonder she doesn’t like Christmas. How did you find out about it anyways?”

“She had a little too much rum and egg nog one year and let the whole thing slip out. Apparently her mother left two days before Christmas without even saying goodbye. How fucked up is that. I mean Lenore is no saint by any means, but at least she has enough tact to kick whichever producer she’s doing at the time out of the house so we can spend it as a family.

“That just makes me sick to think about. No wonder Bette has trouble opening up sometimes. But that still doesn’t explain why she’s pushing me away, I’m not leaving her.”

“Aren’t you though?” Alice was trying to be delicate, but make Tina understand how Bette may feel like that.

“But it’s not like….I’m coming back….We’ve only been…” Tina was struggling to explain herself, suddenly racked with unbelievable guilt.

“T, I’m not trying to blame you, you don’t have anything to feel guilty about, I’m just trying to make you understand how Bette might be feeling. She’s never felt about a women the way she feels about you, but you already knew that. She loves you something crazy. She just feels like she’s losing someone all over again. I know it’s not rational, but that’s just the way it is. Bette may seem strong on the outside, but really she’s the most vulnerable person you will probably ever meet. This doesn’t make the way she’s treating you right by any means, but maybe now you can kinda see why.” Alice trailed off hoping she hadn’t said to much, but wanting help Tina understand the inner workings of her best friends mind.

“So what do I do then?” Asked Tina quietly, desperate for any help as to how to break Bette out of her self imposed emotional prison. “I won’t lose her.” she said with quiet determination.

“Just don’t let her shut you out. Yell, scream, even hit her if you have to; but don’t let her shut you out.”

“Thanks Al, I really appreciate it.”

“You know nothing says thanks like cold hard cash.”

    “Goodbye Alice.”

    “I was just saying…”

Tina hit the disconnect button, smiling and shaking her head at the antics of her crazy friend. But quickly her thoughts turned back to her wayward girlfriend and just how she was going to get her to open up. As she was thinking of just how she was going to broach the subject, she was gathering her purse and keys because she was resolving this issue today not matter how much Bette fought her on it. Time for a little ***** kicking.

    2. Welcome back… im lovin this story already…no surprise there tho!Anyway your title is just fine cause the story is just great,i could totally understand Bettes hurt at Tina going away tho its hard on Tina too! it always is the 1st christmas of having to make that choice between partner and family… so im really looking forward to more thanks good to cya posting again…

    3. Good to see you post again. The Christmas season creates stress for many people, as we are pulled in various directions under the guise of ‘quality time’. I look forward to seeing how you continue the story.

    4. I’m not sure of the back story on these too, but if Tina’s family is aware and accepting of her sexual orientation then she should invite Bette to come with her. Tina has family and tradition on her side, Bette missed a lot of that. That would be a great gift for Tina to share with Bette. If going to NC isn’t an option, then have a Christmas before you leave and do something really special for New Year’s. Tina shouldn’t give up family just to be with her girlfriend, it could create resentment down the line, like Bette took her away from the family. I truly enjoyed reading this, thanks.

    5. glad to see u are writing again. I think one is a great start, with lots of possible avenues. Bette does need an ass kicking, with love…..post soon please

    6. welcome back… i think tina should call her parents and say either shes sick or something has come up at work and she can’t make it… and then she should get that tree and pick up bette and go and decorate and make love under the christmas tree… hmmmmmmmmm thats sounds lovely… please continue

    7. Glad to see you back. Really enjoying this story. I kind of like Amanda’s idea. SO sad that Bette’s mom left her during this time of year…talk about childhood trauma. Please continue.
