Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 7
Chapter 7: Learning to deal, learning to feel…but not learning much (Bette meets Christina and Tina meets Professor Franklin)
Place: Orange County, CA
Year: 1885
(Previously) Finally, Elizabeth took a deep breath and said with unexpected calmness, “Before, you were a man to me, someone I looked up to and even thought about us having a future together. Now, you are pitiful image of a human being. I loathe you for making me doubt even for a second my integrity and my values. But I still believe that this world has some goodness, which I will find, especially when a scoundrel…," she suddenly stopped and turned to Alicia, “What did you call him earlier?”
“Piece of shit,” Alicia replied eagerly, happy to see that Elizabeth’s spirit was as strong as she said it was.
Elizabeth turned back to Eric and continued as if she never stopped, “…especially when a piece of shit like you will be locked away for a very long time, I hope.”
With these words she turned her back to Eric, winked at Alicia and left this place, with her friend following behind. However, as soon as they were far away from the jail and back into her favorite garden, Elizabeth suddenly burst into tears. Alicia extended her arms and pulled Elizabeth into friendly embrace.
“What’s wrong, Bette?” she asked, holding her tight.
Elizabeth slowly pulled herself away from Alicia’s comfort and said in somewhat frightened voice, “I fear love now.”

The rest of the day was uneventful. Elizabeth didn’t want to go back to painting yet because it reminded her of Eric and she didn’t want the memory of that night to affect her again. Alicia went back to her duties and spent the remains of the day cleaning Elizabeth’s art studio.
Alicia was pleasantly surprised by some of the paintings she saw there. It was mainly scenes of nature or animals. She saw an empty canvas on the floor, the one that Elizabeth overturned when Eric attacked her. Alicia kneeled down to pick it up and noticed that it wasn’t completely blank. A few faint lines and contours of a human face were very visible and Alicia stood there trying to discern whose face was supposed to be painted on that canvas until she felt someone standing behind her and watching her.

Oh…I knew you’d stop at a critical point when you were going to that convention! This story is really good…I can’t believe this was the first one you ever wrote. Anyway great update and have tons of fun at L5. We’ll be looking for your report as usual!
Is the picture of Bette and did the long ago Christina paint it? This is such a thought provoking story. Can’t wait to see what is next.

Great update!… It’s getting really exciting! Hey, do you want a token of how much I love this fic? Well, I think I will be looking forward to your next chapter just as much as your report on L5! How is that for a proof of my addiction? LOL… I genuinely love this story, it’s very original and has so much potential that I’m sure I’ll be hooked to every single chapter. To be honest, I really like the build up, and don’t mind waiting a bit more for their meeting. Especially given the nature of your intrigue, it really needs the background stories.
