    Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 9

    The courier from Alphaville, a young man with a pimpled face and questionable intellect, who was constantly flirting with Tina at work when he had a chance, handed her a sealed envelope and began to chat.

    Tina didn’t want to appear rude, but she couldn’t be civil at a crucial time like this and quickly dismissed the annoying messenger.

    She was finally left alone with information that could shed some light on Elizabeth Porter’s mystery. Tina opened the envelope and took out its contents. She was not prepared for the story she found inside.

    The copies of the book that Dylan sent contained a file of an eye-witness account of a murder case that happened in 1885 that was never solved and was dubbed ‘The Art Beauty Murder Mystery.’ The story was relatively short but shocking nevertheless.

    ~~~~~~~~
    On the little table, within easy reach, Tina put her coffee mug and a tray filled with her favorite cookies that she always ate when she was anxious. “Bad habit,” Tina murmured to herself, “No wonder I’m beginning to look like a pig.”
    Lying on a sofa, she read late into the night, reading over and over about the events that happened on October 19, 1885 in Orange County.
    She was reading eagerly, searching for clues, driven by her desire to find the answers to the mysterious miniature painting, initials CK and her own feelings.
    The article began with a short description of the prominent Porter family, almost the same information she read previously, only written in a story-like form. After the introduction the article went through some pre-October events, and as they began to unfold, Tina felt as if she was watching a movie, so livid was the account of Elizabeth Porter’s story.
    Tina read about Elizabeth’s childhood, her love and admiration for her older sister Katherine, or Katie, as she affectionately called her. Tina learned more about Katie as well, including her love for singing and that she was invited to the New York Metropolitan Opera to perform in ‘Carmen’ but had to decline because of her upcoming marriage.
    Next the story went on to describe the events after Katie’s wedding at the end of September and how Elizabeth spent a lot of time painting a wedding gift for her. It was the painting of the house they both grew up in.
