    Chapter 9: Longing and letting go…again (Bette opens up to Alicia and Tina tries to get a closure)

     

    “Why don’t you start with telling me when was the first time you wanted to kiss her,” Alicia said, getting comfortable on the chair next to Elizabeth.

     

    “What?” Elizabeth exclaimed, blushing and giving Alicia her best ‘I can’t believe you just said that’ look. “Kiss who?”

     

    “Come on, Bette,” Alicia said, amused by Elizabeth’s sudden display of emotions, “I see how you two keep glancing at each other especially when the other is not looking, or how you can’t keep your hands to yourself, or the way…”

     

    “I got it Alicia, thank you,” Elizabeth interrupted her, getting redder and more nervous by the minute. “I just don’t know how to explain what I feel. I don’t even know why I’m talking to you about it, you can’t possibly understand.”

     

    “For your information, Bette,” Alicia said, getting all giddy and excited, “I happen to know something about that and completely understand what you are going through.”

     

    “You do?” Elizabeth asked skeptically, “So now you are not only the walking encyclopedia but also an intellectual of life?”

     

    Alicia rolled her eyes and said, as if she was explaining it to a four-year old, “I’m not that smart, Bette but I’ve been where you’re right now…you are just soooo gay.”

     

    “I’m not gay, Alicia. Do you see me smiling, do you see me laughing, do you see me being joyful?”

     

    “Huh?” Alicia looked at Elizabeth, totally baffled.

     

    “What? You are a walking-talking encyclopedia and don’t know the meaning of word ‘gay’? Gay, as in being happy, joyful, cheerful.” Elizabeth’s smile returned for a moment before she snapped back into sadness.

     

    “Oh, I forgot,” Alicia scratched the back of her head. She thought for a moment and said, “Okay, how can I explain it. Have you heard of Sappho, the Greek lady poet?”

     

    “Yes, I’ve heard of her,” Elizabeth said, already regretting that she’d allowed this conversation to go this far, “I had never read anything by her, but what does it have to do with…”

     

    “Just listen, please,” Alicia interrupted and closed her eyes as she recited,

    ‘I have not had one word from her…

    Frankly I wish I were dead when she left, she wept a great deal;

    5. hey there!… LOL, soooo late with my packing for my parents’ house, but I just couldn’t resist reading this (the last fic I’ll read before departure… hihihi). Wonderful, as always. That was both heartbreaking and sweet. I love how Tina is fallind head over heels in love with a woman from the past… Quite a mystery regarding Bette’s death, can’t wait to know what really happened. Anyway, gotta run. But thanks for this Christmas update!!! Love it… Have a wonderful holiday, mate! K ;)
