Out of Closet (TiBette time-travel romance), Ch. 62

“Oh my God, you are right. Bette knows you will be searching for any news and she is sending you a message from the past. How cool is that? Okay, dibs on a movie rights. This story is going to sell through the roof. I see Oscar in my future…and the best part, Tina? The best part is that nobody, except us, will know that it’s based on a true story,” Alice giggled and rubbed her hands in excitement, making Tina laugh out loud.

“Alice, you had lost you mind,” Tina shook her head and gave Alice an affectionate smile, “But you are the best.”

“Oh, I completely agree. I’m the bestest of the best,” Alice winked, making both of her friends laugh again.

The serious looking librarian with the customary glasses and a ponytail gave them an evil eye and put a middle finger to her lips. They looked at each other and smiled, going back to the newspapers. Tina began reading through the 1886-1887 publications of Laguna Beach Gazette, which turned out to be incomplete because some of the issues were missing. There was nothing else in the papers that mentioned the Porter family and Tina was ready to leave.

“We can come back in a few weeks and see if anything had changed,” she returned the stuck of newspaper issues to the desk, unable to hide her disappointment. Just then Alice’s phone began ringing loudly and the librarian with ponytail gave them another disapproving look.

Alice smiled apologetically as she answered and walked away from the desk. Tina looked back at the librarian and whispered, “I’m sorry. We are leaving.” The Ponytail shook her head and disappeared, taking the newspapers back into the storage area. Tina and Dana followed Alice outside and heard her uttering in frustration, “Oh what fresh hell is this?”

“What’s wrong, Al?” Tina couldn’t hide the worry in her voice.

“It was Professor Kroll. He and his team had done more analysis and data gathering. He agreed to a follow-up interview and told me that he’s now pretty sure about his prediction of the number for portal’s openings.”
