    Passing the torch….Thanksgiving Day Challenge

    “What about the corn?”

“I forgot the corn, but I have corn puffs or we can stick with squash.”

“Squash would be fine,” Dana said slowly and began to Google recipes for butternut squash.  “What a stupid name when it isn’t butter or a nut.”

“What do we need?” Alice growled from between her teeth.  “We aren’t even showered and Bette, Tina, Helena, and Kit will all be here within a few hours!”

    “Butter.”

“Check, but isn’t that overdoing the butter a tad if it’s called butternut squash?”

    “Salt and pepper to taste.”

“Check.”  Alice handed Dana the seasonings and waited for the next instruction.

    “Maple syrup, pure not processed.”

“My favorite Aunt will have to do!”

“Your what?”  Dana now looked thoroughly confused.  She went back to opening the cans of butternut squash they had picked up at the store.

“Aunt Jemima!” Alice proudly handed Dana her syrup bottle.  The top was sticky, hardened syrup caked on to it making it almost impossible to open the top.  After struggling, Dana skipped the task of measuring and poured what was left of the bottle into a bowl and began to mash squash into it to make a paste like dish.  “It looks like Tina’s squash.”

“We’re not trying to be Bette and Tina,” Alice corrected her girlfriend with a patronizing smile.  “We’re taking the torch to make it better.”

    “Rolls?”

“Got them, I bought the doughy ones that I like so much that Tina insists aren’t good for you.”

    “We need dressing!”

“No doubt, Dana,” Alice agreed.  “And a shower.”

    “I meant stuffing, idiot!”

“And gravy for the potatoes,” Shane suggested.  “Tina’s has lumps in it so you know it’s homemade.

“Stovetop and jar gravy,” Dana pointed at Shane and started throwing money at her as she pushed her out the door.  “Make it fast, they’ll be here shortly!”

Shane hurried down the street but came to a screeching halt when she ran into Bette and Tina, walking hand in hand, in front of Alice’s building.

“Where are you off to this morning?”

“Al forgot a few ingredients,” Shane reluctantly admitted.  “But she wants to have an amazing dinner that has all the goodness of Tina’s cooking but all the special touches of Alice and Dana.”

    1. Classic Gumby…clever, fun, witty! Alice is hysterical! Love it Gumby…thanks! For the past 10 years, we go to my sister’s sister-in-law’s…TERRIBLE cook. We don’t have the heart to tell her…so we eat Chinese BEFORE going over to her house. LOL

    2. Pulling off a holiday meal with all the trimmings is hard work. Thank goodness the takeways are open here practically year round! Lenore (and Tina) had the right idea. ;) Thanks for the post!

    3. I like the version of your story with all the girls alive and well and funny as hell. So Tina was very crafty with her Thanksgiving Dinner and Bette knew this but let Alice act of though she was doing them favor by taken over the meal, and then her and Dan end up making out instead of preparing the meal. I wish I had a little more of Angie in the story though.

    4. I’m ROTFL at the scene in Alice’skitchen. Tina Bette is one heck of an actresses..Imagine all the pref just so they have a “Perfect” Thanksgiving? Thanks for the one off. ^_^

    5. As nigella would say, take as many short cuts as you can! I loved Alice’s solution for the food scale lol genius. Thank you for the fun Danish. I miss them greatly.

    6. Suddenly I´m a bit relieved not being from a Thanksgiving celebrating country – however I think Bette made the point.By the way…any chance of an update on Loves Recovery…happy Thanksgiving!

    7. I thought it was weird that Lenore had her own recipes. And Tina outed as a poseur, LOL. Although I do think that the show’s Tina actually made her own pies, etc.

    8. Aren’t these ff challenges great?
