    Passing the torch….Thanksgiving Day Challenge

“Let me guess,” Tina smiled as she shifted Angelica to her other arm as their young daughter placed her head back down to drift off to sleep.  “Gravy?”

“And stuffing,” Shane admitted defeat.  “I think it got a little away from her.  How did you know?”

“You have the same look that Bette has every year when I send her back out for gravy.”

“What do you mean?  Your gravy is homemade.  It has lumps.”

“I add flour to it to make it lumpy while it’s heating.”

“But the stuffing is all you.”

“The organic place by us makes it every year and it’s my favorite,” Tina admitted with a smile.  “I buy it the night before and then throw it in butter on low in the crock pot to have it moisten up.”

“Please tell me we haven’t been eating turkey loaf instead of just a regular turkey?”

“That I cook, after Bette and I have argued for hours on how best do it, what temperature it should go on, and then how mad we are that we have no choice but to have you all over and have to put on a happy face despite wanting to kill one another from the stress.”  Tina laughed when Shane’s eyes widened in surprise.  “This year I’m thankful to have watched the parade in bed with my family.”

    “Corn?”

    “Frozen in a bag.”

    “Pumpkin pie?”

“The organic place makes a mean pie, you have to order it a few days in advance of pick up they get so busy.”

“The flour, in the hair?  The messed up make-up and wrinkled shirt every year?”

“The handiwork of one Bette Porter and her frisky hands!”

“It isn’t about the meal, Shane,” Bette chuckled at their young friend’s reaction.  “It’s about being with family, as crazy as they are, and enjoying the day.”

“I’m going to pick up a pizza from the deli at the store, too.  We can eat that if Al’s dinner is inedible.”

Bette and Tina laughed as they made their way inside, climbing the stairs to Alice’s apartment and lightly knocking on the door.  They heard scurrying behind the door and looked at one another, puzzled at all the activity going on.

    “Shit, it’s them!”

“What’s plan B now that we aren’t done cooking?”

Alice tapped her head, deep in thought, before smiling at Dana.

“I’ll make my mother’s timeless recipe.”

“For what?  We haven’t finished anything we’ve started yet!”

“Wine,” Alice held up a glass and unscrewed the top.  “Might as well get back to the Thanksgiving of my childhood, don’t you think?”

    1. Classic Gumby…clever, fun, witty! Alice is hysterical! Love it Gumby…thanks! For the past 10 years, we go to my sister’s sister-in-law’s…TERRIBLE cook. We don’t have the heart to tell her…so we eat Chinese BEFORE going over to her house. LOL

    2. Pulling off a holiday meal with all the trimmings is hard work. Thank goodness the takeways are open here practically year round! Lenore (and Tina) had the right idea. ;) Thanks for the post!

    3. I like the version of your story with all the girls alive and well and funny as hell. So Tina was very crafty with her Thanksgiving Dinner and Bette knew this but let Alice act of though she was doing them favor by taken over the meal, and then her and Dan end up making out instead of preparing the meal. I wish I had a little more of Angie in the story though.

    4. I’m ROTFL at the scene in Alice’skitchen. Tina Bette is one heck of an actresses..Imagine all the pref just so they have a “Perfect” Thanksgiving? Thanks for the one off. ^_^

    5. As nigella would say, take as many short cuts as you can! I loved Alice’s solution for the food scale lol genius. Thank you for the fun Danish. I miss them greatly.

    6. Suddenly I´m a bit relieved not being from a Thanksgiving celebrating country – however I think Bette made the point.By the way…any chance of an update on Loves Recovery…happy Thanksgiving!

    7. I thought it was weird that Lenore had her own recipes. And Tina outed as a poseur, LOL. Although I do think that the show’s Tina actually made her own pies, etc.

    8. Aren’t these ff challenges great?
