Playing By Heart
My loathing for my boss spilled over into road rage as I honked and hollered at bad drivers en route to the label’s headquarters in West Hollywood. At that moment, I wished Bette was with me. Her sweet smile and soothing, sexy voice always seemd to calm me down.
For a split second, I thought about calling her, but talked myself out of it. It was way too soon to be this addicted to someone. I mean, that’s not healthy, right? I shook my head, answering my own question for myself. I rolled my eyes for how needy I had become for her in such a short time. I was completely in love with that woman. I am completely in love with that woman.
Without even realizing it, I had my phone in my hand with my lover’s number punched in, my thumb hovering over the send button. No, I can’t run to her every time there’s a problem that’s rocking my foundation.
I scrolled through my contact list and found Joyce Wischnia’s number. An internal struggle brewed just below the surface of my composure. I shook it off while my mind kicked into overdrive, speeding through thoughts to create a solution for a problem that seemed to be beyond the realms of my control.
Taking deeply measured breaths, I was able to talk myself out of an anxiety attack. Would it be the end of the world if I lost my job? Of course not. Would it be a blessing not having to work for such a douchebag? Absolutely. What was I worried about?
Once I realized the ridiculousness of the situation, I tossed my phone onto my passenger seat. My confidence, talent, self-worth, and the beautiful woman who would be at my side through it all was enough to dismiss any negativity that could possibly attempt to infect my day.

Spaceland
“Make sure all these bulbs are new and in proper working order. I do not want this show to be a victim of equipment failure that could cost me a client.” Jodi demanded as she pointed to the colored spotlights tracked along the ceiling which faced the stage.
Zack rolled his eyes as he tilted his head to his lighting guy as if to tell him to go ahead and do what she said.
“I thought the Stouts weren’t your clients yet.” He asked, knowing it would likely get a rise out of the agent.
“‘Yet’ being the operative word, Spear.” Jodi answered without missing a beat. “I’m sure if the band isn’t happy with the quality of their performance at this venue, though, they will be less than grateful for the opportunity to play the gig. Less than grateful talent is not so eager to sign on the dotted line. I need this show to go off without a hitch.”
“I suppose you want your cut up front too, don’t you?”
“How have sales been so far?” The greedy agent asked, now face-to-face with Zack.
“There have been a few tickets sold so far, but the calls I’ve been getting asking about availability have been steadily coming through since we announced the show.” Without waiting for a response, Zack turned around and headed to the office, expecting the agent to want money sooner rather than later.
Jodi watched his retreat as she thought about it for a moment. “You know what? Let’s wait until the final numbers are in tonight. If this could turn into your new resident artist, then I’m sure it will be well-worth counting out loud as the crowd goes wild.” She said with a sly smile.
“You’re the boss.” Zack replied with little enthusiasm before shutting the office door behind him.

Did anyone recently tell you that your story is really great? Well, it is! I hope that you find the time – and the ideas – to continue this fantastic alternative universe story. Your characters are great, your story idea (the band, the music industry) seems to be thoroghly researched and .. well.. it is hot! Your style of writing with a lot of humor and funny dialogues just keeps me coming back to it again and again. Please update! My birthday is coming up so I’d like to make a wish for a new chapter…just joking ;) No really, I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to read more and see what you might have in mind for Bette and Tina. Actually I was telling my girlfriend about PbH and had to translate some of it to her because her English isn’t good enough to read it herself. I really hope you’re not giving this up. Cheers!
Hi I just love this story, hope you will come back and continue it.
It’s a great story,i read it in 2 days,can’t stop!
J’aime beaucoup cette histoire. Votre style d’écriture est incroyable.
Je voudrais un nouveau chapitre ainsi que finir cette histoire. Merci beaucoup.
This is a great story and it is such a shame that it remains unfinished! I would really lovey if you finished it, please
Sassypants, would you believe that I haven’t logged into the site in quite sometime so I am just now seeing this? This past week I have been updating the story in terms of the technology used (phones, rideshare, etc) by the characters in this story and revising mechanical and grammatical errors so that it’s written a little better.
I have also had 3 additional chapters written for YEARS and just haven’t posted. My plan is to begin re-posting it so that it is all in one book (drop down chapters). I’d like to finish the story before that happens, and I’m a chapter (or two) away from making that a reality.
Anyway, it was nice to see a little nudge of encouragement. It’s nice to know that there is still some interest in this story.
xoxoxo,

Hi, of course there is still interest in this story ( and not only from Gran:) ).
I really hope that you can give proper end for this amazing story!
Delighted to see your reply and look forward to your posts.
Love your writing and will enjoy the re-posting as well as the new Chapters I’m sure. Don’t be in a hurry to finish these two characters story because they’re great.

I agree with all the other comments, please continue…..for many more chapters!
You can definitely write, girl! And, I’m not a fan of being left hanging, or to my
own imagination to complete the story; as you would, no doubt, be so much
better at that task! Also, not in a hurry for this story to end, as I think there is a
plethora of plot lines to follow and embellish. Looking forward to more from you!!
Hi there, Dr. A!
Rather than copy and paste my previous comment I just posted to SassyGran’s recent comment, I will just point you to it (it should be right above this one) and extend my gratitude to you for reading this early little fic of mine.
Hoping to return soon!
