Playing By Heart
With a blushing smile, Tina set down her menu and directed her attention back to Joyce.
“That’s kind of what I wanted to talk to you about. I am dating someone new…and she just retained you for her sister’s band.”
The instant the words left Tina’s mouth, Joyce smile fell and she blinked several times. Just as quickly her smile returned as she laughed aloud.
“Get outta town! You’re yankin’ my chain aren’t ya? You almost had me there, Kennard.” She bellowed wagging her index finger at Tina. “By the way, thanks for the referral. Got a helluva retainer out of that Bette Porter. My God is she one gorgeous creature.”
At the sound of Joyce exalting praise on her girlfriend, Tina’s smile soon fell and she glared at Joyce with one eyebrow cocked.
Jim returned to the table with Joyce’s martini and a glass of water with lemon for Tina and waited to take their food order. Tina looked up at the server.
“Can you give us just a minute, Jim?”
“Certainly.”
As he walked away, Joyce looked at Tina, confused.
“Hey buttercup, I don’t know about you, but I’m a liquid lunch kinda gal. I hear the appetizers are fantastic though.”
“Joyce. I’m serious. Bette Porter is my girlfriend.” Again, Joyce ceased all activity and stared at Tina for any hint of deception. “And I’d appreciate it if you could refrain from referring to her as a creature. Or lauding her beauty for that matter. I am well aware of how gorgeous she is.”
“Didn’t take you for the jealous type, but fuck me underwater, Kennard! You’ve switched teams?” Joyce reached for her martini and silently saluted Tina with her glass before taking a sip.
Tina smirked and gave the answer she was thinking out loud. “Not only have a switched teams, Joyce, but I was fucked underwater last night.”
The sip of martini was unceremoniously spit back into the glass when Joyce heard Tina’s admission. Tina couldn’t help but laugh, thinking about Bette doing the same thing the previous two days. She handed Joyce a napkin.
“Sorry. I guess I should be more discreet about the information I share.” The music executive chided herself.
Once Joyce composed herself and cleaned away the alcoholic beverage dribbling from her chin, she stared at Tina in awe.

Good advice from Joyce! Tina better speak up with Bette. Better now than later. PPS
Hope Tina takes Joyce’s advice. Great update as always.
I love how you are weaving all this together. It’s complicated.
Hopefully when Tina leaves Joyce she will go to Bette immediately and tell her what Aaron wants to do. She should not let it wait another minuteor she will do irreprable harm to their relationship. I’ll wish her good luck and God’s speed in her dealings with Bette on this matter. Joyce is one colorful character and so are you to come up with all the things she says. Great update. Thanks.
Well, music is just the best for that, so I needn’t drink or eat!!!!It’s all about priority, and so far, so is music into my life. Now Tina better talk to Bette before things get ugly. Thanks for the update! Hope you’re doing fine.
Tina is in trouble.I hope she takes Joyces advice.Thank you for the update.Great story.
Tina listen to Joyce and tell Bette what’s going on.
Great job with the dialogue! I can totally picture Joyce/JL saying those quick one liners. Good to see Tina getting a little jealous & territorial over Bette too! So how is Tina gonna break the news to Bette about only wanting to sign Kit? Is their bind strong enough to make it over this tiny bump? I sure hope so! And by the by…. The visual of Tina slurping down clams “like a pro” has me thinking all sorts of dirty thoughts…. Should I share? PPS :-)
Phew, I was really behind this time. Insead of a sleep over Bette and Tina had a play over. I think Joyce is right and hope that Tina does the right thing.
Damn Joyce is crazy but gonna like her. Hope Tina listen to Joyce and talk to Bette. Please post more, thanks!
Please listen to Joyce Tina. Wonderful update again Mel. I could actually picture Joyce talking and calling out to the waiter. Lovely! Thank you.
Wow MeLL… No matter how many times I read your story, I still amused! :-) really!! And it always so easy to picture it on my mind as if its in the show itself! … Brava!! :-)
What’s not to love about Joyce…and your writing? Hilarious! The banter of Tina boasting about switching teams and being fucked under water to Joyce revealing her a spaghetti girl to all of Joyce’s pet names for Tina had me guffawing! Try a Goody Powder or two with that re-hydration next time you hang with Stella…sure cure.
I hope T can take Joyce’ advice. Otherwise it will be a disaster between them. Thanks a lot for this story. In my opion I can understand why Tina want to do this. I know she can do whatever for bette because she love bette so much. But maybe for Bette’s thought she can’t understand.
Cloudy, rainy with a chance of thunder? I know you are going to make it bad to the make it better again! I secretly enjoy a tortured and miserable B&T….just to enjoy seeing them get back together and I know you will do that extremely well! Thanks for entertaining me my dear MeLL! ;0)
