Posthumous Wisdom (22)
It had been almost forty-eight hours since Alice had opened the last layer of her package from Dana. She willed herself to put herself out of her own misery and just get on with the rest of it. The thought of what was to come however was both too final and too terrifying and so the package lay there waiting for her courage to reappear. During that time though she had re-examined the notes Dana had written on the pictures on numerous occasions desperately searching for a clue as to what was to come. Depending on her mood she had managed to make herself believe a variety of scenarios but in her moments of lucidity she knew that she was only guessing and the only way to get any answers was to open the next layer.
Alice had been pleased when Tina had invited her for dinner. Selfishly she hoped that Tina’s day hadn’t been too busy and she would feel up to cooking. The writer had been living on take-out even more than usual these past few days and the prospect of a home-cooked meal was oddly reassuring. When she thought about it, Alice realised that Tina’s’ cooking was probably the closest thing to home-cooking that she had ever known. That disproportionate comfort that food cooked by a certain person in a familiar surround can bring, that happened for Alice when Tina fed her. Lenore had many talents in life but cooking most certainly was not one of them.
This dinner would be the end to a day in which she had felt her friends rally around her. Helena, Kit, Bette and Shane had all called to talk to her and make sure she was holding up – Tina’s had not been the only dinner invitation. She sensed a feeling from all of them that Dana’s box was drawing them all together. She hoped that was true. The time following Dana’s death had been so tumultuous for them all that Alice had feared at times that her family who were her support network would disintegrate entirely. Lately things had been improving though and knowing Dana as well as she did, Alice suspected that what she had to say to everyone had the power to help heal some old wounds.

Hey Wonderingaloud, you are definitely on my list of favourite authors on this site. I’m just loving every word. You address each character with an authenticity that’s brilliant. Keep on posting. I’ll love to see how you will bring Bette and Tina together again for more conversations as well as Shane and Carmen.
Thank you wonderingaloud for yet another insightful post. This story is truly touching and wishing that Ms Dana did not die so soon. But, then, you would not be writing this incredible story. I am looking forward to seeing A opening the rest of the box. pps.
Everyone seems to have a certain character whom they’re ready to have read their letter. I don’t know who’s letter I’m anticipating. This story is so good, I’ll take whoever you choose. Okay, okay, I do have a very strong desire to see a scene with Shane and Carmen or Carmen and the gang, but no pressure.
everything that beachlife said… I’m being a bad commenter huh? I know I’m not good at this but yeah, the conversation between Alice and Tina is one that I could only wish o be included in the show. It’s amazing for me how people can communicate. I wish I knew how to though hihi. thanks for updating wonderingaloud, ‘ppreciate it PP as soon as you can. I’m looking forward o the next chapters.:D
Love the heart felt conversation between tina and alice.. which you rarely see on the show between these two.. excellent….
Another great chapter, wondering! You really capture dialog well and the conversation between Alice and Tina seemed so true to their characters. Thanks for the update. PPS!
Absolutely love your writing! This chapter broke my heart for both of these women…but always under it all is a layer of hope. Thanks!
I love this story! It is convoluted and captivating.
