    Private Duty—Chapter 3

”Yes it is nice. Alana?..Go back inside and help your Aunt Tina ok?” Tricia asked watching Alana  nod her head let letting go of Bette’s hand and walking away

”Bye Ms Bette!” Alana yelled as she headed back to the main house

Tricia and Bette watched until Alana disappeared out of their view.

    ”Can we talk?” Tricia asked.

”Sure” Bette answered as Tricia nodded for them to walk down the trail.

”I talked to Tina and I know what is going on” Tricia began

”Tricia I’m really sorry if-” Bette started but was cut off

”Bette you don’t need to explain or apologize to me. You have nothing to apologize for. I’m coming to you because I want to help.  You love Tina right?”

”Yes I do. I always have” Bette replied

”I can sense that from you and I am glad one of you is using their head about this.  I practically told her to stop being selfish.  She has always been impulsive Bette.  She just jumps in feet first without testing the waters first.  She never thinks rationally about things.  She says she is in love with you yet not once has she even mentioned to me that she was interested in women or talked about dating one.  I agree with you that getting to know each other and building a friendship first is the right thing to do in this situation and I told her that. She can’t possible know anything about who you are now. And the same for you about her.  It’s been 20 years since you have seen each other and you both say you are in love with the other. Well that may be so on the surface but you do need to take the time to learn about each other and let that surface love grow into a deep rooted love.  It seems there is a strong foundation there already to begin that very thing”. Tricia finished as the two continued along the trail.

”Exactly.  How can I even get her to see that.  I don’t know how to reach into that head of hers.  It’s like she is so closed off on listening to anything other than what she thinks or wants and doesn’t even try or want to see anyone else’s point of view” Bette replied as Tricia laughed ”What’s so funny?”

”I’m laughing because you have figured that out about her in less than 48 hours when she is just realizing that herself after 29 years.  Anyway I am saying I think she is ready to listen to you.  Really listen. Go to her.  I’ll watch Mom and start dinner” Tricia says as Bette nods and they take the trail back to the main house

    *************

”Aunt Tina?. Why do you do that to Grammy?” Alana asked watching Tina turn her Grammy on her side.

”So she doesn’t get bedsores from laying in one spot to long” Tina replied fluffing the pillow underneath her mom’s head.

”What are bedsores?” Alana asked intently

”Bedsores happen when you lay in one position to long and the skin becomes injured” Tina explained hoping Alana understood.

”Oh like a boo-boo” Alana replied.

”Yes like a boo-boo” Tina said relieved she didn’t have to go into further explanation.

Just then there was a knock at the door and Alana jumped off the bed to open the door revealing Bette standing on the other side.

”Hey Ms. Bette. Aunt Tina was moving Grammy so she won’t get a boo-boo. I’m going to tell momma” Alana said running out that door passed Bette and down the stairs.

Bette chuckled and turned back to see Tina looking at her sadly.

”Tina? Can we talk?” Bette asked softly

Tina sighed and nodded. “Yes.  And Bette.. I want to do what you asked ok. I’m sorry” Tina said laying the cover back over her mom and straightening it out.

Bette sighed in relief and rubbed her forehead ”Can we go back to the guest house and really talk about this now”

”Yes we can. I’d like that” Tina replied looking at her Mom who had fallen back asleep then back at Bette.

Bette reached out her hand and Tina smiled walking over placing her hand in Bette’s and was immediately pulled into a hug.

”Thank you”. Bette whispered in Tina’s ear as Tina closed her eyes and sighed.

    Comments

    1. No not Dan!!! Run Tina. Just kidding. Tricia is the voice of reason. She makes a lot of sense. Reconciling nine year old Tina with the present woman who has carried guilt for 20 years and loved ten year old Bette but never pursued a relationship with a woman does need some counseling to resolve. I will just settle for Matt? Really Tina? Bette on the other hand has had relationships. Failed relationships. Tina is stubborn and impulsive and Bette gets that already, Sounds like love to me. Love this Bette by the way. Give it time. Like this story.

    2. Thank god for Trisha! She was able to get through Tina and let her see reason!

Time for Tina to grow up and deal with the guilt and my advice is to solve other character flaws too. Impulsive, selfish, stubborn and jump to conclusions is not endearing and Bette figured her out in less then 2 days.

Really, Dan!!!! Never liked him, maybe Tina should run or he can recomment another therapist.

      Alana, what a cute girl!

      Great story!

    3. I recall this story from a time ago. It is good to refresh and remember this tale. Thank you for bringing it back. this is another amazing gentle read that has an amazing journey to tell.
All will end well for these two destined souls. Thank you for taking the time to share. This story is a wondeful read.

    4. Okay, give Dan a chance….. I always found Dan to be a rather neutral kind of guy. I neither liked nor disliked him, he was just there. Since he was not very important to the story…. I didn’t concern myself with him.

Well, Tina went to the right person for advice – Trisha. She at least listened and the light turned on. Alana is a lot like her mom…. give comfort and advice when its needed. She’s a smart four year old.

Let’s see how this talk goes in the guest house. Maybe Tricia made some impression, but old habits die hard. Tina best start thinking before she acts… This bit of drama was absolutely not called for. Bette certainly is a forgiving soul.. at least Tricia is in her corner. Hope Dan can do her some good….

Loving this story….. thanks for this chapter…. love to see more.

    5. Not keen on Dan but we’ll see how his character developes in your hands!

Thanks for the post and for Tricia in there as the voice of reason.

Looking forward to the story continuing.

    6. Good thing that Tricia was able to talk sense into Tina. Bette and Tina should try to get to know each other like they’d met just now. I’m curious to see whether Theresa will react to the T + B situation once she hears about it. She reacted after Bette’s identity was revealed so I hope for a reaction and some improvement on her condition.

      Thanks for posting, I’m intrigued.

    7. I really like this story. I’m so glad Tricia is sensible and not against what appears to be true love between Tina and Bette. We’ll see how Dan is in this story.

    8. Great start to a very different perspective!
Tricia sounds like she’s going to be a great ally for them both?
Are there not any other therapists in LA? ……… can’t stand Dan Foxworthy!!
Can’t wait to read more !
