    Happy anniversary!!! Why can’t you commit?

    “Meg?”

    “Hmmm?”

    “Where’d you go? You looked like you were a million miles away.” The beautiful gallery owner leaned back against her desk, folding her arms, and smiled…waiting for her friend to pull herself back to earth.

    Meg shared the warm smile with the woman she loved as her sister. “I was just wondering how you came up with the idea of making your office into its own little private gallery?”

    Bette took a quick look around and once again was pleased with how the finished product had turned out. She had labored for days over the plans just for this room…wanting to make an environment that was both comfortable and luxurious, without being intimidating…a room where you could feel the money everywhere you looked and touched, but without it being at all pretentious. And, as she looked around, she believed that she had truly achieved that goal.

    Her mind then went back to Meg’s question…where did this idea come from? She looked over at her friend, who she trusted with her life.

    “I will tell you, but you have to promise not to think I am pathetic. Okay?”

    “Hmmm…well, somehow the word pathetic, when used in the same sentence as Bette Porter, just doesn’t make any sense…so I think we are both safe. Come on…tell me.”

    Bette looked down and whispered, “My father.”

    “Your father?” Meg looked at her friend, confused.

    “Yeah…..the house in Philadelphia has a huge office and library…you know, the kind that have the heavy wooden doors that slide shut?” She didn’t wait for Meg to acknowledge the question, just continuing on.

    “Well, when I was a kid, he would have clients come to the house sometimes, and whenever they got there, they would always be shown into Daddy’s office…with Daddy always closing the doors behind them.” She stopped and let out a deep sigh. “It seemed like whenever one of his clients came over, we had to be real quiet, so as not to disturb them…as if they were the most important people in the world.” Bette shrugged her shoulders and gave Meg a lopsided grin. “I remember thinking that I wished I was one of his clients…that if I was, maybe Daddy would invite me into his office and slide the doors closed behind us…and that would mean I was really important too.”

Does Tina’s non-committal behaviour to relationships have anything to do with that ‘giggle’ from the seashell? And that grown up, sexy version of her ‘giggle’ she heard 5 years ago at that party? Looking forward to when she hears the giggle again and be able to meet the owner of that giggle.

    33. Hi Sea – I may be wrong (and hope that I am), but it seems that you are fighting with this story a bit…maybe trying to decide which angle to go to bring it all together. I wish it would flow as easy as your first story for you. My point is I want you to know that we really appreciate when you post a story. I love your style and storylines and hope this is all a joy for you and not a writer’s block fight. By the way, I like the new twist you have thrown in here – great chapter (as usual).
