    Remember When…Chap4

The doctor stopped to gather his thoughts which made Tina look up to him. She was silent, just listening to the doctor and Kit’s conversation and holding Bette’s hand like she has being doing since she was allowed to see Bette 3 days ago, but seeing that the doctor wasn’t talking anymore made her talk and she asked:

Tina- what kind of risks? What can happen if she doesn’t wake up in the next 4 days?

Doctor- Well there’s the risk of blood clots forming, paralysis of the rest of her limbs and in the worst case she can stay in the coma indefinitely or even die. Even if the worst is over and she’s stable, dying is always a possibility.

After hearing this Tina started crying again and went back to looking at Bette and caressing and squeezing her hand even harder than she was before.

Kit- Oh My God! (Crying) What can we do? There’s got to be something we can do to help her.

Doctor- Right now it’s up to Bette to wake up. The only thing I can do for her is keep her comfortable and make sure there are no more complications with her health; the rest is up to her. I will however move her out of the ICU and in to a private room where she will be monitored, but where she can have visitors. In many cases sensing family and love ones around, and having them talk to the patients has help speed up their recoveries. So as soon as she’s settle in her room, have her friends come visit and talk to her about good times and things that she likes, to stimulate her memory. Ms. Porter, Tina, I’m sorry but that’s all we can do for Bette right now. It’s her job to come back to you, if she wants to…… A team of orderlies and nurses will be here shortly to take her to her new room. I’ll see you this afternoon.

Tina- Doctor, can I ask you something?

Doctor- Sure Tina, what is it?

Tina- (still holding Bette’s hand) Well, we, as in Bette and me, we have a daughter, Angie, and she loves her Momma B and there is no one more important to Bette in this life than our daughter so I was wondering if it would help if she comes visit Bette?

    1. While I understand the girls comments about B being stubborn and saying they’ll kick her butt over it, I think they need to eliminate those thoughts and focus on positive ones and when she wakes up, being grateful that they were given a second chance with her. Making those comments about her stubborness could be taken negatively and be construed as blame and those thoughts will certainly not help B. Hope T changes her mind and at least takes a short rest from the hospital and spends some time with Angelica to get her ready to see her Mama B. Thx and PPS!

    2. Thanks for the update. It’s such a hard place to be… The long wait until her eyes open. Maybe Angie’s voice and presence will motivate her to return. We can only hope.
