Reprisal Reprised- Chapter 18 (Part 1)

“Mind if I walk out?” she asked as she slid the door open and took a step outside.

Watching her walk away, Tina said softly, “Please, be my guest” as she stepped outside to follow behind her.

Standing in the backyard, Bette looked around and couldn’t help but be reminded of the yard that had existed at their house when Tina had lived there.  She had a very distinguished touch that was coming through as clearly here as it had anywhere that Tina had applied her efforts.

“You’ve done some work out here” Bette softly said as she felt Tina ease up to her side.

    “Some, yes” she answered.

    “I can tell.”

Turning to look at Bette, Tina asked, “How’s that?”

“It’s not that hard really” she said as she continued to survey the yard.  “Your touch comes through loud and clear.”

“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” she teased.

    “Depends” said Bette.

“On what?” asked Tina, the smile slowly fading from her face as she watched the pained expression cross Bette’s chiseled features.

Still looking straight ahead, Bette said, “Whether or not you have to endure the death of the beauty that it once was, just to watch it fade away in front of your eyes, dying a slow death from the lack of touch that had once made it so beautiful.”

Tina just stood there, unable to respond, unable to breath, and eventually, unable to look at Bette any longer.

After a couple of minutes of silence between the two women, Tina finally asked, “Is it possible to bring it back, the beauty?” she whispered, voice thick with emotion.

Bette said nothing, simply continued to look at all of the lush landscape surrounding them.

With a shrug of her shoulders, Bette finally turned to Tina and said, “I don’t know, I’m not a gardener, but from the looks of my backyard, my first guess would have to be no.”

Biting her bottom lip to try to keep it from trembling, Tina finally looked up at Bette and simply nodded her head.

Taking a deep breath, while looking Bette directly in the eyes, she said, “I guess it’s a good thing that I’m the gardener then.”

“Perhaps” smiled Bette as she turned to watch the sun beginning to set, “perhaps.”

    1. ok i want more and more..cant get enough of that story…Bette is really hard with Tina she say things to hurt i hope Tina be brave and dont ever think on given up on them..cant wait for more of that dinner..thanks Skip..amazing as always :o)

    2. So, I’ll have to spend the rest of my weekend with my heart ripped from my chest, crushed and bleeding, tossed into the bushes of a southern California patio garden. Thanks, Skipton you’re a peach…(hugs)

    3. Bette figures if she hurts Tina that she’ll give up…but she hasn’t broken Tina’s resolve. Tina just needs to keep focus on the goal — she already knows how Bette is going to try to throw her off. Funny, they know each other so well…yet it’s harder for them to even speak to one another. Each anticipates the other. Please continue.

    4. I for one DO NOT have a probably reading 20 pages of this story, so whatever you have please bring it. I love the dialogue. You can feel the emotions, it’s like your right there.

    5. Skip,You always have the ability to move me through your words and powerful imagery. Your dialogue is always on point w/the characters and so much more meaningful than the show. I so want to read more.

    6. great beginning for them, i think tina, the gardener can make the garden (bette’s heart) look beautiful and in love again…i hope their journey back together won’t be too long and painful

    7. Such dialogue – such tension – such a writer. I think you are getting better with each chapter and you were damn good to start with. Thanks for the pleasure of this story.

    8. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this great chapter. I’m glad to see that you seem to have found a nice rythm of writing. And BTW, 20 pages would be quite a treat! But as usual, we’ll be very patient and follow your lead.

    9. Tks for 3…Now if you would like a poll…3 vs 20…I’m sure we’d win and you would be posting 20…so pls we don’t mind really post it all….tks!!!

    10. thank you skip for a great story -one would have to say that Bette was devastated by Tina’s flight and yet she hasn’t cut her off completely but she sure isn’t making it easy for Tina. Perserve Tina.

    11. I love the long & drawn out tortured dance these two do ( or conversation if you really want to call it that!) Do please write MORE! & no need to hurry the story along – I’ll eat up all the angst you care to write – LOVE IT!

    12. Skip 20 pages I would love, In fact I think that you should write a book I won’t be able to put it down. I don’t understand how people are putting Bette down, I think Tina is lucky that she is talking to her, although I do want them to Kiss and make up, great chapter as always

    13. I love your style, your stories, can’t wait to read anything you want to write. thanks for always delivering such quality. Your stories take me away from this bleak cold winter in waiting.

    14. Oh, I feel for Bette and for Tina to still persevere in her hopes of winning Bette back. It will be a long and painful journey indeed. Love this line from Bette: “Whether or not you have to endure the death of the beauty that it once was, just to watch it fade away in front of your eyes, dying a slow death from the lack of touch that had once made it so beautiful.” It pretty much sums up her feelings and her fears if she lets Tina in and there’s a chance she’ll have to go through that again. **Big Sigh** I see that no one’s complaining about the 20 pages. That would really be a treat and a great X’mas gift, Skip. Thanks again.

    15. skip….oh my gawd! Excellent writing…I have absolutely NO problems reading 20 or 200 pages of your writing. Thank you for this chapter, and another plea here for part 2 to be posted very soon. It looks like a long road ahead for B&T but I am so invested in this journey of theirs. Santa, please let Skipton write for TLW, or the TLW spin off!

    16. I just read all of your chapters tonight and I LOVE it! It’s like all the other posters are saying, it’s sad, heartwrenching, lovely, funny, and every other emotion rolled into one. Please continue!!!

    17. Skip this is not like you, your not a tease. So why begin now I have already said that I know it would be a pleasure to read your work every single day. So lets start posting those pages already. As for the story even though there is so much angst between them its still the most intense feeling ever.

    18. I think it was a great way to have Bette start talking about how she felt when Tina left, b/c they weren’t just talking about plants. I’d take twenty pages anyday. Thanks for your writing.
