“I know” was all Bette said.
Turning towards Bette, Tina said, “I’m never getting you back to LA, am I?”
“Dunno, Tina. It’ll be really tough after spending all this time here” she teased, the sound of the waves crashing all around them.
Tina, saying nothing in response, looked deeply into Bette’s eyes, searching for what she was not sure.
“You ok?” Bette asked, all teasing gone.
“Yeah” Tina answered, “maybe a little tired.”
“How ‘bout a nap?” Bette asked turning them around and leading Tina back into her bedroom.
“By myself?” Tina asked, the teasing glint of before returning to her eyes.
“Seems awful decadent to be taking a nap on a Thursday afternoon” Bette smiled, “but sure, why not?”
Looking over at Bette’s bed, late afternoon sun shining on it with the sound of the waves coming through, Tina didn’t think that she had seen anything more inviting in a long time.
Watching Tina, Bette knew exactly what she was thinking. Placing her hands on her waist, she gently pushed Tina back until she was right against the side of the bed.
“Sit” she commanded.
Doing as told, Tina sat on the edge of the bed and watched Bette lean down and remove the slides that she had on.
“Scoot back” Bette said as she lifted her legs and placed them on the bed.
Kicking her own shoes off, Bette climbed over Tina and lay down next to her.
Turning on her side towards Bette, Tina said, “I’m not on your side of the bed am I?”
“No” smiled Bette, “you’re good.”
Reaching up, Tina placed her hand on the side of Bette’s face.
“Do you have any idea how much it means to me to be here with you?”
“I think I do” smiled Bette as she leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on Tina’s lips.
“I love you Bette Porter.”
“I love you too” smiled Bette.
Sliding closer to Bette, Tina placed her head on her shoulder and draped her arm and leg across her body, the same possessive manner that she’d always exhibited when they slept.
“Is this ok?” Tina whispered, eyelids already heavy with sleep.
“Of course it is, T. Go to sleep” she said as she wrapped her arm around her shoulder and held her tight.

Excellent Skip. Just beautiful.We’ve been waiting for so long, and voila,you surprised us. Can’t wait to read more about Tina’s visit to Carmel. They are absolutely adorable.It’s nice to know that even though Bette moved, they still have so much love for eachother. Well I’d call you a tease, but it was worth the wait. One quibble, though. When the guy asked Tina if she needed help, she had the perfect opportunity to say “Take me to your leader.” How could you pass that up? But otherwise, well, you know, it was great. I know infants can keep one busy, but can you supply our fix a little more often? Over here jonesing.

They are making progress. But have noticed that Bette never says Tina’s name when she says that she love her. Why is that? Is it because she is still holding part of herself back from Tina because she still does not totally TRUST her?

I sensed a sad undercurrent …
I know the storyline is different but this is how I see the characters attempting to reconcile (if at all possible really) after S3. Bette’s uncertainty and longing, Tina’s measured steps and gentle pursuit. Alas, the rushed episodes won’t allow for the relationship to unfold as you’ve carefully allowed here. Thank you for writing.

First, as always, it is truely wonderful to see a post with your name on it! I can’t help but to think that Tina is desperate and she might do better is she didn’t pull back a bit. Bette has her exactly where she wants her. I am glad that at least, they are together in the same place. Post soon

Hey Skip, Awesome to have you back doing your excellent storytelling. This is a real delight and pleasure. After all of the trauma of the past it was great to see the gals just take some time and be with one another. Kit was a class act as she saw through Tina and gave her the necessary push in Bette’s direction. It was pleasing to have the gals actually discuss how they were feeling and what they were thinking about. This prevented the Stuart dinner becoming a problem. Open and honest discussion is the best way forward. Tina’s surprise arrival was joyous and humorous as Bette used the well worn “a friend” line with the workmen. Chortle city! And then onto Bette’s place as the comfort and closeness of these gals was rekindled. I hope that the simple act of sharing a bed is the beginning of a beautiful relationship. The love is there but they need to find the understanding and compromise again. I adore yher tenderness and gentleness you created between Bette and Tina. Please continue and brighten my days.
