    Running on sunshine

Harvey’s was a chic restaurant near the coast in LA. Bette searched her new house until she found a Yellow Pages to get the name of a taxi company and it arrived in a few minutes. Her chatty, female driver drove her to a bank and waited until Bette had withdrawn some money and drove her to the restaurant. Bette ordered a scotch and sat and waited for her sister.
Sarah Porter was as tall as her sister and only a few pounds heavier – her long brown hair had been straightened which made her look different to her older sister. She wore black framed glasses that made her look older than she was. She was wearing a black skirt and a red shirt and high heel shoes.
    “BETTE!”
Bette put her scotch down and grinned – it was great to see her sister. She hugged her
“You look fantastic “Sarah said “It feels like a life time since I saw you “
    “I know – I have missed you “
“We have all missed you “
“Even Rebecca? “ Bette said with a smile
“You know she likes to impress you with how clever she is and what complicated operations she has performed “
Bette smiled “What would you like to drink?”
    “Ideally a cocktail”
“Well have a cocktail then – go and get what you want and put it on my bill”
“See – Rebecca never says that to me – that’s why you are my favourite sister”
“Get me another scotch and see what the lunch time specials are “Bette said before sitting down.
Sarah returned in a few minutes with a tropical cocktail as well as a scotch for Bette
“So I assume you didn’t spend your two million while you were away?”
“ I don’t think it possible to spend two million when you are travelling”
    “I probably could “
“Yes you probably could which is probably you will never have 2 million dollars”
Sarah grinned “I think I can live with that “
Bette grinned – she had missed her sister. She was so much more outgoing than Bette and she had always admired her younger sister’s spirit which was almost impossible to quell.
“Did you find out what the specials were?”
“They know me in here because of Simone – the barman said the BBQ chicken is superb so I ordered two “
    “Fair enough “
“So how was your world tour?”
“Awesome – you should think about travelling at some point – it would be good for you “
“Too busy writing – I have a great idea for a book”
“You have three half-finished novels – you should finish one of them first “
“Where is the fun in that?”
“Most publishers only consider manuscripts that have actually been finished for publication “
Sarah shrugged as if that was a mere detail. Sarah’s lack of concentration was famous in the family and most certainly not a trait she had inherited from her parents, her older sister or her younger sister.
“Travel writing is a popular genre “Bette pointed out
“True “Sarah seemed interested briefly Bette knew that as soon as she picked up her cocktail it would go out of her mind.
