    Say Nothing Chapter 4

Bette excused herself to go to the ladies room. She thought it would be good for Tina to be alone with her thoughts. As she made her way through the restaurant, she saw a woman beginning to stand and make her way toward her. As she got closer to her, the face was more recognizable. It was smiling at Bette now but, Bette’s memory of this face was of  it’s tear filled eyes the last time she had seen her.

“Bette.” The woman’s voice was  properly English, soft and very sexy. She reached to embrace Bette. “I never thought I would see you in Paris again”

Bette returned the embrace. “It’s been a while Viv.” Bette’s voice was low and soothing.

“Can we talk? Do you have time while you are here to get together.” The proper English woman questioned

“I’m only hear for a couple of days. It’s business …….. I am just ….. well, give me your number and I will try to make the time to see you.”

Vivian Elaine Beckford was why Bette Porter did not do relationships. When Bette had first arrived in Paris, Vivian was an up and coming fashion designer already working for one of the great fashion houses. They dated briefly and then went on to date other woman. They seemed to continually find their way back to each other and finally were exclusive. More to soothe Vivian than to please Bette, it would later be known. Their relationship seemed unusual, Bette was assertive and strong willed. She liked the way she walked through her life. Yet those who knew her on a personal level found her to be fun and to possess a great sense of humor. There were definitely two distinct sides to Bette Porter as others saw her. Fun-loving away from work. Confident at work and definitely committed to Vivian. Why else would she put up with her tirades. Vivian on the other hand, was a high strung, perfectionist who could make everyone around her miserable. Her personality never seemed to change. She was always on edge. She tried to hide this part of her personality. She had previously been called out on her bad behavior. But, she could not keep up the charade for long and she was back to acting out in no time. Bette seemed to be able to handle her better than most. She never made an excuse for her behavior but she never condoned it either. Her perfectionist behaviors are what helped propel her to be a highly sought after designer. Vivian handed Bette a piece of paper with her phone number on it and they embraced again with Bette promising to try to get together. None of this interaction was missed as Tina looked on.

    1. I love this story. Both Bette and Tina are so beautiful, civilized, witty, and charming. I’m loving the details about art and painting that crop up in the story. Can’t wait for them to acknowledge feelings for each other…very very slow burn. Thanks

    2. I have no doubt that James can keep his mouth shut, but Bette made the rather fatal mistake of telling Alice she was trying to get Tina’s show… that can’t bode well. Post when you can, thanks.

    3. Hi, DJRK! This is getting better and better! Magnificent update. Can’t wait for your nest chappy. We are so loving this beautiful and different story. PPS Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties)
