    Seemingly Lost Chptr. 16

“No, you’re completely missing the point of her decisions. Everything she did was for you. And out of the love she has for you, all of the lies and the cover ups that was to protect you, Teeny.”

    “But she should’ve known I would’ve preferred the truth rather than a lie. I would’ve taken…”

“Could she really have told you all that without seeming self serving in the process. Could she have told you the truth and not seemed selfish, breaking up what you thought you wanted? Come on Teeny I know, you know better than that.” Tina took his words and let them sink into what was already swirling in her mind. Her eyes were captured by the soft green grass under her feet when she heard her brother speak again. “Do you think she would hurt you intentionally?”

    “No.”

    “Do you still trust her?”

    “I trust her as a friend, I think? But,….”

“Then that has to be enough.”

“I wish it was, really I do. I just don’t know if I trust her with my heart anymore. She lied to me, she lied to me.”

“If she’s really your friend than that has to be enough for you to rebuild with, other wise you’ve really had nothing at all, just meaningless laughs, simple tears and a bond built on falsehoods. Is that all it really was?”

Tina sank back down against the tree and she let her eyes dance with her wriggling feet. And she knew that all this talking was taking a toll on her mind. She closed her eyes and let the warm summer breeze blow over her and she felt her brother’s shadow move over her indicating that he was now standing over her. She kept her eyes closed as she heard him speak “I love you Teeny, really I do, but I think you’re in the wrong just a little bit here.” Tina’s eyes remained close as she gave a small smile to his words. “And judging by the way you keep pacing every night I think you know it too. I think that naïve thinking your doing is gonna get you caught up, and boy would I love to see it. But I don’t think you should be ambushed the way momma thinks. So I’m gonna give you a little heads up,” Tina’s interest was now piqued; she cracked open one eye and squinted up towards her brother “Momma sent a message to Bette a little while ago. And from her reply she’s on her way here.” Tina’s eyes were wide open and her face was blank. Surely she didn’t hear him correctly, she must’ve heard something different. “So you got but a few hours to prepare yourself for the storm, Darlin.”

    1. I am so happy to see this story back. I’m glad Tina’ family is sympathetic to Bette’ plight. She knows she hurt Tina badly, but she was trying to save her from an even greater hurt. I hope they get to talk without a lot of yelling.
