    Bette and Tina go back to the house.

    “What is that?”

    “I am still very much in love with you.”

    “I’m in love with you too, I never stopped being in love with you. I know that is hard to believe considering what I did… but it is true.”

    “But you questioned it didn’t you?” Tina asked. “You had to have.”

    Bette stared down at her hands in her lap, “Yes.”

    Tina just exhaled slowly.

    “I know that is really hard to hear, but I don’t want you to think that it means anything now, because it doesn’t.” Bette looked up at Tina, she didn’t look convinced. Bette knew she had to find a better way to explain this quickly. “I did question my love for you, but I realize now that I was just projecting other fears and failures into our relationship. I was spiraling out of control, but it was all so wound up in my own head that I couldn’t share it with you. It only pushed us farther apart and made me question what we had. But looking back, you were the one thing I did have, and if I would have just viewed you as the complete person you are, I could have leaned on you a bit and not been so damn confused and scared.” Bette hoped this made a little more sense.

    “You could have, Bette, you could have come to me and I should have done more to make you open up. I knew things were going downhill but it was so much easier to stay in my place than to stand up to you.” Tina looked Bette in the eye. “But not this time, Bette, if we get back together I want us to be fifty-fifty.”

    “I agree… if there is one thing I have learned through all of this it is that you are stronger than I ever imagined… I just never let you be.”

    They sat in comfortable silence for a few seconds.

    Tina reached for Bette’s hand once again and pulled it onto her stomach. “Do you want to talk to your daughter?”

    Bette looked over at her at smiled, “Yes, I would love to.”

    “Okay,” Tina leaned back against the cushions of the couch, making herself comfortable. “Go ahead, she is all yours.” Bette felt a little silly, she scooted sideways so she could easily lean her head over Tina’s tummy. She took one of her fingers and lightly traced little figure eights over the cotton stretched tight against Tina’s swollen stomach.
