“Seriously I do have some great news.”

“Can’t you tell me in the bedroom? I really need to get out of these clothes.”

“I really want you out of those clothes too, but give me just a sec.”

Bette went over to the counter and for the first time Tina noticed the champagne cooling and the two glasses. “Wait … does this mean what I think it means?”

Since they’d gotten back together Bette celebrated everything big and small. She was so grateful for life with Tina and their daughter and the Porter family being reunited that she no longer took anything for granted. But when Tina saw this particular bottle uncorked, she knew.

Pouring the two glasses she handed one to Tina. “Yes, we got a court date. The adoption is going through.”

“Oh, baby that is wonderful. Why didn’t you say something? When did you find out?” Tina hugged Bette and did a version of their happy dance. They clinked glasses and took a sip. Bette kissed Tina one more time before answering her questions.

“I got the call this morning.”

“Did Roberta call you?”

“No” Bette said finally letting go of Tina. Still dehydrated from the run, Tina put aside the champagne and picked up her water bottle. Leaning against the kitchen counter she guzzled her water and encouraged Bette to continue.

“It was someone from the court. We stand in front of the judge on the 17th at 10:00am.

“I’ll be damned. I was so sure that bitch would hold things up.”

“She didn’t have a leg to stand on. Besides I think it was you that changed her mind about me. I don’t know what you said to her, but it was noted in the file that your recommendation played a big part in the decision.”

“I just told her to do the right thing by you and Angelica. You’re her mother Babe. I refuse to let bureaucracy stand in the way of what is inherently yours. Roberta had this misguided notion that she was protecting me and Angie from being coerced into making it legal. Just goes to show how clueless she truly is.”

Tina tossed the empty water bottle in the recycle bin and headed towards the master bathroom with Bette in tow carrying the still full champagne glasses.

“I didn’t want to take any action prior to the adoption being final, but I will certainly put in a complaint and report her incompetence. She’s clearly in the wrong job. Who knows how many families she’s offended or worse rejected if her biased assumptions go unchecked?”

Tina was on a roll. Bette admired her passion for righting the small injustices, but even more so she was admiring the show as Tina removed her shorts and tank top closely followed by panties and sports bra. She stood naked while she leaned in and started the shower. At the same time Bette removed her robe and panties letting both fall to floor at her feet. When Tina turned around to see that a brilliant smile was all Bette was wearing all thoughts of Roberta Collier flew out of her head.

Angelica was out with Angus at a 0-6 months Gymboree class and not expected for hours so they had the beach-house to themselves. After making love in the shower they moved their romantic activities to the bedroom to really kick off the celebration.
