“Your headaches are easing up and your are steadier on your feet – that really makes me pleased”

Bette sighed “Babe”

Tina took Bette’s bag and holding hands they walked out of the hospital room, after saying their goodbyes to the nurses they walked out into the fresh air. Bette took a few steps and stopped

“Let me take in how good it feel to be outdoors”

Tina put the case down and stood and watched the brunette – Bette took in some deep breaths of fresh air and looked up at the azure blue sky.

“This is a relief “ Bette said

“I know “ Tina agreed. She felt very emotional – to have Bette home was wonderful beyond words. Words she was not sure that she could articulate. Bette took hold of Tina’s other hand and smiled at her

“Thank you “ Bette said softly

“For what ?”

“For always being there when I woke up – for giving me the best medicine in your smiles and kisses. I know its been hard for you “

“I am glad its over – I just hope that the worst is over. We don’t know what the after effects are going to be – whatever they are – we are going to face them together”

Bette nodded “I am not scared Tina – I have you and we have a wedding in 8 weeks”

“We do – are you ready to go home now ?”

Tina took Bette’s case and they walked slowly and steadily to the car. Tina opened the passenger door and Bette grinned.

“Do you remember you getting touchy on one of our first dates when I tried to pay for breakfast and then you opened the car door for me. A battle of the gallant lesbians “

“I have been thinking a lot about our history “ Tina admitted

They both climbed into the car and then looked at one another

“Have you come to any conclusions about our history ?”

“Yes – there was so much happiness and laughter – it means everything to me”

Bette smiled and put on her seat belt “Good –  I am glad that we have created enough comforting memories to help you when I was ill”
