Tina nodded as she watched the road and made sure that they stayed in the right lane to get off the motorway. Bette yawned

“Tired ?”

“Bit – can we sit outside and have some food “

“Of course “ Tina was delighted that Bette was making suggestions about what she wanted.

“Mom was in until late last night “

Tina had finally given into Bette because she was so much more improved and had gone home for the last two nights and slept through.

“She was on the phone this morning asking me if I wanted anything doing “

“Did you ?”

“I had cleaned the house, changed the sheets, done the shopping and I was about to cut the lawn “

“You two seem a lot less tense “

“I had been over protective of you – which I think is understandable enough given what has happened. “

“You are both strong women used to getting your own way “

“I know – after the disagreement about your father things did calm down “

Bette nodded and yawned again “You were in the right regarding him and she knows that now – she knows how I feel about the old git”

“It was odd to see how she reverted to praying and her beads and stuff “

Bette didn’t reply – she was looking out of the car window and gazing into space. After a few minutes she looked back at the blonde

“Sorry – what did you say ?”

“Nothing  – it doesn’t matter”

Bette raised an eyebrow “I was listening – I just “

“Forgot “

“Yeah “

“Its okay – as you said earlier on  – its going to take some time for your concentration to come back “

“I think my short term memory is slipping in places. Sorry “

“I am not going to complain about having to repeat things to you – I am just delighted to have you home “

“I am looking forward to it “ Bette said “I could use a long soak in a hot bath”
