Chapter 98
Bette’s immediate concern was Tina – she looked at her – she looked devastated as well as angry. Gemma hurried into the room to see to her child leaving Niall the utterly unenviable task of explaining himself to his daughter
“Now Tina -remember what Bette said about the four of us acting like adults and treating each other with consideration “
“The same amount of consideration that you have shown my mother “ Tina said barely containing her anger “ You utter bastard “
“Ti – take it easy “
Tina scarcely showed that she had heard Bette – her attention was on the man she had hero worshipped for her whole life.
“You better start talking “ Tina said “I want to know what the hell is going on – how the hell did you get yourself trapped like this “
“This is not a trap Tina – I’m starting a new life with Gemma and Adam -that’s his name by the way – Adam – your half brother “
Bette winched – that really was throwing oil on a bonfire.
“And I am supposed to welcome this new addition to the family ? I am supposed to just accept that you have walked out on my mother, abandoned the farm, forgot about the other three kids that you have and just be happy for you “
“I know its too soon but I would hope that in time you will be happy for me Tina – I know this is hard for you and I am sorry babe “
“Don’t babe me – you irresponsible shite – how the hell can you let this happen ?”
“It happened Tina – people have unplanned kids all the time – you were unplanned – it didn’t mean that I wasn’t utterly delighted when you were born or that I loved you any less – this is the same “
“This is not the same “
“Tina – I know that this is a shock to you but please take it easy – Bette – please – can you not calm her down ?”
Bette sighed “ Niall – can you really expect Tina to be happy about this – maybe if you had rung her and talked to her about what was going on and not just ran away – maybe then she would be calmer and less likely to be acting like this. We have had to hunt you down – I was suggesting that we hire a private investigator to find you – all your family are worried sick “

What a mess!!! My mama always says that there is no fool like an old fool. Niall has totally wrecked his family’s life and wants everyone else to feel like it’s all great and wonderful. He expects Tina to be happy for him and protect him from Sarah’s wrath. Great Dad, huh? Bette, put Tina on the next plane and get the hell away from the explosion.
Well written. But was hard for me to read. Brought up a lot of memories. Mixed feelings about the whole situation, you know seeking to make yourself happy and the expense of others. My thoughts if a person is unhappy being in a relationship don’t lie your way out. Be honest and just get the hell out. For me being deceived is the more painful part. But than again they were in an open relationship and they both knew that they were taking the chance that the other could fall for someone else. But the situation would be painful non the less. It takes a long long time to be happy for people who make choices that hurt the people you love. That’s a deep hurt that her father inflected on her family.
If I were in Tinas shoes I would most likely react like she did, but from the position as an outsider I totally understand what Niel did. Tell me one reason why he should stay in an unhappy relationship. Yes he could have and should have told his wife and not just go and hide. For me he seams like someone who always choose flight over fight and that is just the way he is.

Yes annaluis, they were is an open relationship, but Niall is MORE than old enough to know what “safe sex” is and to wear a rubber. The fact that he actively choice to have unprotected and a child while he was still married and living with his family is MUCH MORE than just cowardous. If he was so unhappy in his marriage, than he should have ended it before starting a family with someone else. Nine months is more than enough time for you to make a move and leave. Another thing that gets me is when he says I didn’t want to be with someone who thought so little of her daughter that she wouldn’t hide her affair with him ” Niall said “I was appalled and ashamed So it is better to sneek around, lie, not confront the elephant is the room, be illresponsable, and disrespect your wife and marriage enough to not even tell her before you tell your children. He has also put his parents in a bad position with their grandchildren. NO Nialls is the DOG here and his feet should be held to the fire. What if his old butt crocks before he updates his will, MESSY. Oh but he has a good lawyer. Okay sugarmama, you love him so much and can support him, have his sign away all rights to the farm. He said he wants a new life, than be a Big Boy and start anew completly. Bette should tell Tina about the miscarriage, because she needs to know the kind of hurt her mother is going to be feeling. PPS

i hate the niall keeps comparing his affair to bette and tina romance… to me they are total opposits… niall is a coward… what happened to his balls… he should of asked and gotton a divirce way before the baby was born… and i hope the other kids all feel the same way as tina… i felt like he kicked the three of them in the ass… and i liked niall… he was a good father… but he is showing his true colors… can’t wait to see what sarah is going to do and say… pps
Hey AllyE, that was termendous. You walked the line perfectly as Bette was the peacemaker. She understood exactly what Tina was going through as her own father, Melvin, had done this to Kit and her mother. Bette was emphathetic to Niall, and Gemma, and especially Adam.This was a moment when relationships can be destroyed forever by harsh and hurtful words.Giving Tina her head while focussing on the present and future was the right thing. Not allowing it to get too snippy was also a good thing.There is much to digest and work through here.The best thing is that Bette is by Tina’s side all of the way. Whatever happens will only strengthen their committment to each other.Ally you always challenge and provoke interesting discussions. This is such a mess and drama, poor Tina and glad Bette is there for her!
