“Mom says the two of you argue more “
“She’s a difficult woman and she blames me for a lot of things that have gone wrong between us. Last Friday “ he sighed “I had just had enough. I had been with Gemma and Adam in the morning and when I got back she was straight on my back nagging me. Something snapped Tina. I just wanted to be somewhere that I was loved and needed. You don’t need me anymore Tina – neither does Finn or Willow and your mother sure as hell neither needs me or likes me. Gemma and Adam love me and want me around. I know you must be shocked darling and I am sorry but you can’t help who you fall in love with – remember you told me that when you were telling me about how you had fallen for Bette “
That took the wind out of Tina’s sails – she seemed to sag a little. Bette took her hand and squeezed it.
“This is a difficult situation Niall – what about the farm – what will you do for money ?”
“Money isn’t an issue “ Gemma said “I am a partner in my mother’s law firm. If Niall wants to be a kept man he can be – I want him to do what he wants to “
Bette raised her eyebrows – that was a remarkable comment. She regarded the woman for the first time. She was pretty – certainly in the old days if Bette had seen her in a club she would have made a bee-line for her and have bought her a drink at least. Bette looked around the apartment – it was high end – not luxury but certainly expensive for around farming country. What Niall seemed to have done was fall in love with was a very independent and self assured woman. Still Tina wasn’t looking at Gemma
“Are you planning to go back to the farm at all ?”
“I have acted like a coward – I do not deny that but I just wanted to enjoy a few days with Adam and Gemma. I actually get to get up and give him his 2am feed – I love that. I am sorry that you are so angry with me Tina but I’m doing something that makes me happy – not your mother. I want to start again and this is what I want. I will come and see her I might need a body guard but I will face the music. I am sorry that you have all had your lives disrupted like this. Thank you for coming out with Tina Bette “

What a mess!!! My mama always says that there is no fool like an old fool. Niall has totally wrecked his family’s life and wants everyone else to feel like it’s all great and wonderful. He expects Tina to be happy for him and protect him from Sarah’s wrath. Great Dad, huh? Bette, put Tina on the next plane and get the hell away from the explosion.
Well written. But was hard for me to read. Brought up a lot of memories. Mixed feelings about the whole situation, you know seeking to make yourself happy and the expense of others. My thoughts if a person is unhappy being in a relationship don’t lie your way out. Be honest and just get the hell out. For me being deceived is the more painful part. But than again they were in an open relationship and they both knew that they were taking the chance that the other could fall for someone else. But the situation would be painful non the less. It takes a long long time to be happy for people who make choices that hurt the people you love. That’s a deep hurt that her father inflected on her family.
If I were in Tinas shoes I would most likely react like she did, but from the position as an outsider I totally understand what Niel did. Tell me one reason why he should stay in an unhappy relationship. Yes he could have and should have told his wife and not just go and hide. For me he seams like someone who always choose flight over fight and that is just the way he is.

Yes annaluis, they were is an open relationship, but Niall is MORE than old enough to know what “safe sex” is and to wear a rubber. The fact that he actively choice to have unprotected and a child while he was still married and living with his family is MUCH MORE than just cowardous. If he was so unhappy in his marriage, than he should have ended it before starting a family with someone else. Nine months is more than enough time for you to make a move and leave. Another thing that gets me is when he says I didn’t want to be with someone who thought so little of her daughter that she wouldn’t hide her affair with him ” Niall said “I was appalled and ashamed So it is better to sneek around, lie, not confront the elephant is the room, be illresponsable, and disrespect your wife and marriage enough to not even tell her before you tell your children. He has also put his parents in a bad position with their grandchildren. NO Nialls is the DOG here and his feet should be held to the fire. What if his old butt crocks before he updates his will, MESSY. Oh but he has a good lawyer. Okay sugarmama, you love him so much and can support him, have his sign away all rights to the farm. He said he wants a new life, than be a Big Boy and start anew completly. Bette should tell Tina about the miscarriage, because she needs to know the kind of hurt her mother is going to be feeling. PPS

i hate the niall keeps comparing his affair to bette and tina romance… to me they are total opposits… niall is a coward… what happened to his balls… he should of asked and gotton a divirce way before the baby was born… and i hope the other kids all feel the same way as tina… i felt like he kicked the three of them in the ass… and i liked niall… he was a good father… but he is showing his true colors… can’t wait to see what sarah is going to do and say… pps
Hey AllyE, that was termendous. You walked the line perfectly as Bette was the peacemaker. She understood exactly what Tina was going through as her own father, Melvin, had done this to Kit and her mother. Bette was emphathetic to Niall, and Gemma, and especially Adam.This was a moment when relationships can be destroyed forever by harsh and hurtful words.Giving Tina her head while focussing on the present and future was the right thing. Not allowing it to get too snippy was also a good thing.There is much to digest and work through here.The best thing is that Bette is by Tina’s side all of the way. Whatever happens will only strengthen their committment to each other.Ally you always challenge and provoke interesting discussions. This is such a mess and drama, poor Tina and glad Bette is there for her!
