    Soul Mates – Chapter 14

Bette’s eyebrows knitted together at the odd statement coming from the television. She lifted her head and listened for interviewee to answer the question.

"We’re more than just close, darling but I’m sure you already knew that"

At the sound of the familiar voice, Bette quickly made her way to the living room and stood before the television to see Helena being interviewed by a young brunette. The confident way Helena talked about her non-relationship with Tina sent a wave of anger through Bette’s veins. The press didn’t know about Tina’s relationship with Bette but where did Helena get off acting as if she and Tina were still an item?

The reporter chuckled and nodded as she brought the microphone to her lips.

"So what are your plans for Ms. Fairbanks after the show is over? I can imagine you’re going to want to whisk her away somewhere and celebrate privately"

Helena laughed in a way that made Bette grit her teeth, "Oh of course but before that happens, we have a treat for everyone here and for all you lovely viewers at home"

The reporter seemed very interested, "Oh? May I ask what?"

Bette froze as she awaited the answer, watching as the microphone was pointed towards Helena, "Certainly, darling. After the show, Tina and I are getting married"

Shane and Carmen sat on the round swiveling bar stools as they awaited their breakfast order. The bell hanging over the door of the main entrance to the Kit’s bar/restaurant signaled a customer had just entered, catching the attention of everyone inside.

A raven haired woman wearing a large sunhat, sunglasses and dressed in a sharp dress suit entered the diner holding a tan envelope against her chest. No one said a word or moved as silence filled the tiny space, the chefs and waitresses had even stopped working.

With a smile, the woman removed her sunglasses and hat as she looked around the room feeling rather awkward at the way every pair of eyes were focused on her.

"Hello, my name is Jenny Schecter. I’m looking for a Miss Tina Fairbanks, does anyone know where I can find her?"

Shane and Carmen looked at each other discreetly, knowing full on the woman at the door was some sort of reporter from New York. They knew that Tina had given instructions about where to go for the fashion show and were told anyone who searched around town for her was someone not on the guest list.

Silence filled the air once again as Jenny patiently waited for anyone to answer her question.

"Never heard that name in my life"

Jenny’s ice blue eyes lifted and locked with Shane sitting at the counter. The answer was so unexpected that Jenny didn’t really catch what was said.

    "I’m sorry?"

"There’s no one from around here with that name, right baby?" Shane turned her head to look at her pregnant wife shaking her head.

"Nope, never heard of her. Sorry, darlin’"

"You can probably try the next town over" Kit said as dried a cup with a hand towel.

A little disappointed, Jenny nodded before smiling and putting her hat back on, "Thank you"

Everyone watched as the woman exited in a bit of a haste before going back to their previous routines. Shane let out a relieved breath and turned back to face Kit at the counter, watching as the older woman shook her head.

    "Damn reporters"

    Comments

    1. So, Helena must be suffering from some mild form of heat stroke, and one of the symptoms seems to be craving a beat down of massive proportions from Bette. Oh well, I suppose it might not matter what Bette does if Tina gets to Helena first. Helena is pathetic, though. She’s not going to break them up at this stage, even Katherine is on their side now. Great chapter, thanks for the post! :)

    2. Oh I sure hope that Bette or Tina gives helena the beating of he life and slams her ass in the limo and tells them to lose her on the way to the nearest airport. wait for the next chapter. The peabody’s really need to get out of town. Never thought I’d feel that way about peggy but damn, she is a super bitch in this one. Thanks.

    3. I hope Bette doesn’t fly at Helena like some Neanderthal. She should dig up some pride, ignore, seat back and laugh at the insane woman. IMO it’s Tina’s battle, she is the one to deal with Helena once and for all.

    4. Argh! …. I can’t believe that this story is almost end! And I can’t believe that Helena is playing the innocent party here! I can’t wait to see what would happen to her once Tina or Bette see her. Thanks for another amazing update Liah!! :-) brava ;-)
