“Hm. I don’t see how one day can accomplish all that. One day and everyone is happy? Impossible.”

“Oh Bette. You really don’t like Christmas, do you?”

        “I did tell you.”

“I didn’t really believe you. After all, everyone likes Christmas.”

“Not me. And no offense, but Tina, you should be
suckered into buying into all that hype. It’s all propaganda, this spin
about what Christmas is and what it means. The truth is, that it’s just
another day that the powers in the establishment decided to make
‘special’ to give us clueless drones something other than Angelina
Jolie’s movies to look forward to.”

“Okay baby, I believe you.” Tina kissed Bette’s shoulder and started humming Jingle Bells under her breath.

“Tina! I will tolerate the tree, the presents, the
lights and the festive dinner. But please… please! No carols.
    Especially not Jingle Bells!”

“Okay baby. I’m sorry.” Tina grinned at Bette and gave the pouting lips a quick peck.

A few minutes of walking were spent in silence.
Bette was still scowling and Tina was still smiling slightly. She
couldn’t help it. It was Christmas and the December morning was crisp
and cool. A chilly breeze had made Bette’s cheeks ruddy and Tina felt
love swell in her heart for this woman stalking stiffly beside her.

“Hey Bette. It must be hard not believing in
anything.” Tina murmured as she slipped one arm around Bette’s waist.

Bette shrugged but put her own arm around Tina’s shoulder. “I manage.” She said with a long-suffering air.

“Still, it must be hard questioning everything…
Not being able to take anything at  face value. It must be
exhausting to always be looking for the hidden agenda.”

“Are you implying that I am paranoid?” Bette eyed Tina suspiciously.

“Am I?” Tina answered with a gleam in her eye.

“Fine.” Bette sighed. “Okay, so I do believe in some things.”

When Bette fell quiet, Tina encouraged her to say
more by poking a finger into her ribs. Bette yelped and twisted away.
    “Tina!”

“You don’t believe in tickling someone for
information, huh?” Tina put a hand to her chin, pretending to sink into
    deep thought.

“Nooo.” Bette couldn’t help laugh. She grabbed both
of Tina’s hands in hers and wrapped them around her waist. She kept her
hands on Tina’s to prevent any more tickle attacks.

    1. That was beautiful and disarming. What we believe to be true and what we have blind faith in can be totally different — depending on our perspective. However, LOVE is a factor that eludes time, space, and dimension…it’s everywhere and nowhere…it just is. Thanks for the update and for the poem…it was lovely. Merry Christmas.

    2. Wow! I am so blown. At first I thought it was the echo of voices in my head. But it actually was your story that did it. I am one of those people who don’t believe in a lot of things. Everything is relative. Nothing is absolute. And absolutely made my day, relatively speaking. Cheers!

    3. And I believe in Love. And I know that you do too. And I believe in some kind of path. That we can walk down, me and you. So keep your candlew burning. And make her journey bright and pure. That she will keep returning. Always and evermore.
