    The Courtroom

She steps into the rain shower, the glass door sliding with a soft hiss. The showerhead is large and round, a modern design that pours water in gentle streams like a tropical downpour. She adjusts the temperature, the hot water quickly cascading over her, but it offers no comfort, no release from the weight pressing down on her. The rain shower’s steady stream surrounds her, but it feels more like a cold reminder of the distance she feels from everything she once held dear.

Bette stands there for a moment, the water pouring over her, the sleek chrome fixtures glinting in the soft light. She runs her fingers through her hair, trying to scrub away the emotions that cling to her skin, but no matter how long she stands under the water, it does little to wash away the pain. The modern elegance of the bathroom its polished surfaces, the luxury of the heated towel rack, the ambient glow of the recessed lighting only serves to highlight the emptiness she feels. She turns off the water with a soft sigh, stepping out of the shower, her mind heavy with the ghosts of what once was.

Wrapped in a plush white robe, she enters her closet, where an array of perfectly tailored suits and pressed shirts hang in color coordinated precision. Everything about her wardrobe is purposeful, designed to exude power and control. Today, she picks a crisp white shirt, black tailored trousers, and a navy blue blazer. Sophisticated, calculated, and commanding just like her.

Sitting at her vanity, she applies minimal makeup a touch of foundation, subtle eyeliner, and a nude lip. Her curls, still damp, are tamed into a slightly tousled yet elegant look. She fastens her gold cufflinks, the intricate design catching the light with each delicate twist. She slides on her signature Patek Philippe watch, its sleek silver band and classic face a symbol of her refined taste and the life she’s built. The weight of the watch on her wrist is both grounding and somehow distant, like a reminder of the world she’s still trying to hold onto.

Bette adjusts her Chanel blazer, smoothing the tailored fabric over her shoulders with practiced precision. The sharp lines of the suit, the navy hue of the fabric, everything about the outfit is calculated powerful, sophisticated, and yet, today, it feels like armor. She takes a deep, steadying breath, looking at her reflection in the mirror. The woman staring back at her is poised, in control, but beneath it all, the cracks are starting to show.

    1. A great start to this story! I’m hooked already. I really like the part where Bette addressed the judge and then Tina spoke directly to her. And the part where Bette whispers to herself that she’ll bring them back together.

Looking forward to reading more. Thanks for sharing your story here!

I must tell you, accidentally I stumbled on this one on another website and there this first chapter is much much longer, with Tina’s POV. Can you fix that, for other readers here, please?

      • Thank you so much
I’m really glad you’re enjoying the story and yes the longer version with Tina’s POV was part of an extended draft I shared elsewhere. I’ll definitely update it here too so everyone can get the full experience from both perspectives.
