    The Courtroom

A heavy sigh escapes her lips as she reaches for her phone, fingers lingering over the screen. She hovers for a moment, contemplating whether to call or not, before pressing the contact. My love. The name on the screen is Tina Kennard. She stares at it for a few seconds, her heart thumping in her chest, a wave of warmth and longing crashing over her.

It’s hard to reconcile the image of the woman she once shared her life with the woman she still feels tethered to with the cold, sterile silence that now separates them. She wants to hear Tina’s voice, to feel some connection, even if it’s just a whisper of what they once had.

But Bette knows it’s futile. The chasm between them feels too wide, too deep. It’s over, she tells herself. Yet still, she can’t help but hold onto the hope that Tina might answer.

The phone rings once. Twice. Each ring feels like an eternity.

    Voicemail.

Tina’s familiar voice echoes through the speaker. ”Hey, it’s Tina. Leave a message, and I’ll get back to you.”

Bette’s throat tightens. Her hand hovers over the phone, her finger poised to leave a message, but the words get stuck somewhere between her heart and her mind. What would she say? There’s too much to say too many years of love, heartbreak, and everything in between. But nothing feels right anymore.

A deep breath. A moment of stillness. And then, she ends the call. No message. No words. Not anymore.

She places the phone back down on the counter, her chest heavy with the weight of the silence.

    Tina’s Home

The sun gently pours in through the window as Tina stirs awake. The soft, golden light filters through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. It’s been three months since she moved out of Bette’s house, and while she’s slowly adjusting to the solitude of her new place, the loneliness still stings. The quiet is deafening at times, and the weight of her decisions lingers in the air, heavy and constant. She’s doing her best to hold it together for the kids, but it’s hard when everything feels so… empty. The house is neat, organized, but it feels hollow, devoid of the warmth.

    1. A great start to this story! I’m hooked already. I really like the part where Bette addressed the judge and then Tina spoke directly to her. And the part where Bette whispers to herself that she’ll bring them back together.

Looking forward to reading more. Thanks for sharing your story here!

    3. This is a great story! Nice job!
I must tell you, accidentally I stumbled on this one on another website and there this first chapter is much much longer, with Tina’s POV. Can you fix that, for other readers here, please?

      • Thank you so much
I’m really glad you’re enjoying the story and yes the longer version with Tina’s POV was part of an extended draft I shared elsewhere. I’ll definitely update it here too so everyone can get the full experience from both perspectives.
