“…the eternal rocks beneath…” Ch. 39
“Then I’ll call you when I get home,” Bette said. “It won’t be long.”
Tina resigned herself to having to wait to see Bette and set about changing and getting ready to head into Hollywood.
Marcus, on the other hand, was thankful to have some time to himself by the pool. Helena had some business across town and said she’d join him and Tina later for dinner, but that she was taking a late flight out that evening back up to Sacramento for some important trial business the next morning.
Tina thanked her for opening her home to Marcus, thanked her for looking out for Bette, but said she needed to go into to check on Lara so for her and Marcus and Bette go ahead with dinner without her. Before she left, she asked about Jodi and Amy.
“I guess Bette hasn’t told you,” Helena said. “Jodi got a faculty position in Berlin. She leaves the first week of August. Amy’s staying in LA.”
Tina was surprised by the news but pleased for Jodi when Helena explained what an achievement it was for her.
“Well given that I’m taking off again around the same time,” Tina said, “we outta have a party here at the house, invite everyone over. Will the trial be wrapped up by then?”
“Very likely,” Helena said. “The evidence is overwhelming and Buckley’s attorney is having a hard time connecting any other conspirators other than the hoodlum she brought over from Europe. He’s already received a reduced sentence and been shipped to a federal facility in Atwater. I can’t imagine this trial taking too much longer.”
Tina thought about this a moment and then asked. “Does Bette really have to testify? I don’t like the idea of her being in the same room with that monster.”
“Of course she will have to testify, Tina. Bette has to tell the jury about Buckley’s initial threat, about her interactions with the protesters, with China.”
“Is she in cuffs and leg irons? Is she under heavy guard?” Tina asked.
Helena cocked her head. “No. She is led in while wearing cuffs, but the court officers removes them when she takes her place at her table. And other than the bailiff and a few other officers, she’s not heavily guarded. Why?”

“Yeah, well, why not. I practically became a menu item last night,” Bette said.
Haha…who wouldn’t want to be sliced, diced and sauteed by Chef Tina?

Before I read just a quick question.
Do you have ideas for your next story?
Off to read.
BenMac says
A few short story ideas, parody of Resident Evil/Walking Dead, crime-detective thriller, and a historical/fantasy set in ancient Gaul…that’s about it so far. Thanks for asking! ;)

I vote crime detective thriller. You are on the roll, my friend. Keep cranking out these awesome stories.

Sola gratia. Grace and grace alone will help Bette and Tina to find their way to the life that they will share. Forgiveness to their mothers and to themselves. So simple but so hard to do in life. You have taken us on this journey and we have grown in knowledge from it. Looking forward to the next post and a happy ending for these two kinky souls. Poor Lara, looks like she will be hosing down the whole kitchen. Tina cooked all of her favorite dishes.

That was cute at the end, loved it. Thanks

The deer! At last! Are we voting here? I vote for either the detective thriller or the historical fantasy story. So another two chapters left.. Always a pleasure to read.

What a fantastic way to start my weekend!
This chapter was a quite a bit lighter, in a lot of ways. The only heaviness I’m left with now is the impending separation and the fact that this story is soon ending.
I’m glad Bette and Helena have talked Tina out of doing anything to Faye Buckley. The woman will get her punishment and hopefully they’ll all start to move on. And Helena to the rescue again, reminding Bette about the photo that James took including Miriam’s portrait and her father as well.
I hope the upcoming interaction with The Planet’s DJ is a bit less filled with jealousy than the last encounter with her all those years ago. ;)
Thanks for the post, BenMac!

Thankyou love your story.

“Well, these seeds which I mentioned before,” Nhỏ began. “They are in us, passed down from generations. Your mother had her mother’s suffering and now you carry that suffering. But you do not need to grow those seeds into strangling weeds down in the darkness. Instead you can bring them up to the light, acknowledge them, understand them and grow sympathy. This will allow you to cultivate compassion, not suffering. Forgiveness, not blame.”
This was amazing! Thank you for your talent, thank you for your teachings, because that’s what you do through your stories, you teach. They are not meaningless stories, each of them are full of deep significance and your words reach the more hidden places of my [our] souls. So, thank you! I will never get tired of saying it.
I like the image of the deer, and I like how Bette’s ‘guide’, which has been her silent company during the days of her youth, finally spoke and planted a new seed in her. I can already see her willing to change and think positive by how she talks to Tina, trying to share with her what she learned [a lot] in only one day.
The end was priceless!! I’ve always loved their banter… so looking forward to the scene at the Planet, I know it’s going to be great!
I’m sad this story is going to end, but I’m also happy to know their ‘nightmare’ is almost over, they need the peace they have been seeking for years and years, and together it will be even better. And knowing you’re already thinking about new stories comforts me.
Thank you
M

I love the whole deer thing!
The kitchen scene was fucking Hot!
Tina joking about the food utensils too hilarious, hahaha!
But mostly seeing Tina and Bette on a path of healing and forgiveness, and becoming a loving family is this best part of the chapter and whole story to be exact.
Oh yeah am I the only one who is also sad that Tina is leaving for maybe a year, I swear I think im inside the story too lmfao!

Benmac ! Part of me totally happy because this was an amazing chapter as always! Another part of me is saddened because this story is coming to an end .
I think I have to tell you how grateful I am to you for sharing this great story with us. It was not only captivating until the first word , but helped guide and see some things that showed us a mirror to “look at yourself and tell me what you see ”
this beautiful and heartbreaking story pointed out that everyone’s life is needed self-healing and self- forgiveness. everyone’s life happening painful things that leave their mark on the soul, and if you does not deal with, the wound will too deep and the recovery will be more difficult and takes longer. and should never be forgotten that we are not alone, because there is always love in our lives : whether it be a friend, family or love. Yes, sometimes life throws us, but we need to be able to see the positive, it’s still there :)
for me, taught this, the story .
I’m glad that you’re thinking about the next story ( but I hope you will continued once you are old stories )
I can’t wait to the next chapter.

BenMac, you are totally unsurpassed! Your flare for sprinkling humour throughout your drama is incredible. It keeps us engaged and entertained with meaningful analogies leaving us wanting more and more. I for one will be sad to see this story end in only 2 more chapters; I will miss it and these characters in particular as I did when I finished To Kill a Mockingbird.
I will love anything you write, but I would be partial to a story set in ancient Gaul. See you next Saturday!
