    “…the eternal rocks beneath…” Ch. 39

No, she and Tina were not tragic star crossed lovers. They were mature women, with hurts and wounds like anyone trying to find their way in life. And they had been blessed to have been brought together when they had been. For their friendship, grounded in the damp earth of those Tennessee forests, engraved into the granite outcrop of rocks by the old reservoir, and christened and forged in the fires of all the loss and pain they had suffered…that was the real them. Whether they remained lovers for a year or a thousand years was no matter. They would always be friends and always be there for each other. Of this, at least, Bette was certain.

The other thing she was realizing since yesterday morning when Helena had ‘talked her off the ledge’ and her mind had stopped spinning was that she was as damaged as Tina. Perhaps she was not as deeply scarred as Tina, but her psyche had been bruised and wounded just the same. She had never entirely confronted those old hurts either. Her mother’s own mental illness, her father’s broken heart, and her sister’s resentment had impacted her all her life. She had tried to fill those childhood hurts with things and money and status. She had sought the approval of woman, similar in personality to her mother, in hopes of somehow getting the love she had been denied, only to be abused and misused. And Helena was right about something else. Just as Bette had encouraged Tina to champion the little girl within her, Bette needed to do the same for herself. Self-love, self-forgiveness, and self-acceptance were the only avenue open to her and her own self-healing, she knew.

And one source of that path had been shown to her in the calligraphy art of the Buddhist nuns. Peggy and Helena had been a bit skeptical to include their work in the museum, but Bette had prevailed, saying that their work would promote awareness of the tragedy of sex trafficking among young children in Southeast Asian countries as well as other parts of the world. Many of the nuns committed to the order had themselves escaped from the abuse and enslavement. Their new compound, a bit north and west of San Diego, was a beacon of hope for others who had suffered a similar fate, and their work to promote justice and peace reached across the Pacific and worked to provide a means of liberating these young children. These children, these women, were certainly on the margins of society, Bette reasoned, and their cause was as just and as important as any other human rights cause she or her father or others before them had been committed to.

    1. Sola gratia. Grace and grace alone will help Bette and Tina to find their way to the life that they will share. Forgiveness to their mothers and to themselves. So simple but so hard to do in life. You have taken us on this journey and we have grown in knowledge from it. Looking forward to the next post and a happy ending for these two kinky souls. Poor Lara, looks like she will be hosing down the whole kitchen. Tina cooked all of her favorite dishes.

    2. What a fantastic way to start my weekend!

This chapter was a quite a bit lighter, in a lot of ways. The only heaviness I’m left with now is the impending separation and the fact that this story is soon ending.

I’m glad Bette and Helena have talked Tina out of doing anything to Faye Buckley. The woman will get her punishment and hopefully they’ll all start to move on. And Helena to the rescue again, reminding Bette about the photo that James took including Miriam’s portrait and her father as well.

I hope the upcoming interaction with The Planet’s DJ is a bit less filled with jealousy than the last encounter with her all those years ago. ;)

      Thanks for the post, BenMac!

    3. “Well, these seeds which I mentioned before,” Nhỏ began. “They are in us, passed down from generations. Your mother had her mother’s suffering and now you carry that suffering. But you do not need to grow those seeds into strangling weeds down in the darkness. Instead you can bring them up to the light, acknowledge them, understand them and grow sympathy. This will allow you to cultivate compassion, not suffering. Forgiveness, not blame.”
This was amazing! Thank you for your talent, thank you for your teachings, because that’s what you do through your stories, you teach. They are not meaningless stories, each of them are full of deep significance and your words reach the more hidden places of my [our] souls. So, thank you! I will never get tired of saying it.

I like the image of the deer, and I like how Bette’s ‘guide’, which has been her silent company during the days of her youth, finally spoke and planted a new seed in her. I can already see her willing to change and think positive by how she talks to Tina, trying to share with her what she learned [a lot] in only one day.

The end was priceless!! I’ve always loved their banter… so looking forward to the scene at the Planet, I know it’s going to be great!

I’m sad this story is going to end, but I’m also happy to know their ‘nightmare’ is almost over, they need the peace they have been seeking for years and years, and together it will be even better. And knowing you’re already thinking about new stories comforts me.

      Thank you
      M

    4. That was so fun, hot and a cute chapter.

They needed it and so was i after all the sad and heartbreaking in the past.

You are a amazing writer and i will look forward to read any thing you will write.

    5. I love the whole deer thing!
The kitchen scene was fucking Hot!
Tina joking about the food utensils too hilarious, hahaha!

But mostly seeing Tina and Bette on a path of healing and forgiveness, and becoming a loving family is this best part of the chapter and whole story to be exact.

Oh yeah am I the only one who is also sad that Tina is leaving for maybe a year, I swear I think im inside the story too lmfao!

    6. Benmac ! Part of me totally happy because this was an amazing chapter as always! Another part of me is saddened because this story is coming to an end .
I think I have to tell you how grateful I am to you for sharing this great story with us. It was not only captivating until the first word , but helped guide and see some things that showed us a mirror to “look at yourself and tell me what you see ”
this beautiful and heartbreaking story pointed out that everyone’s life is needed self-healing and self- forgiveness. everyone’s life happening painful things that leave their mark on the soul, and if you does not deal with, the wound will too deep and the recovery will be more difficult and takes longer. and should never be forgotten that we are not alone, because there is always love in our lives : whether it be a friend, family or love. Yes, sometimes life throws us, but we need to be able to see the positive, it’s still there :)
for me, taught this, the story .
I’m glad that you’re thinking about the next story ( but I hope you will continued once you are old stories )
I can’t wait to the next chapter.

    7. BenMac, you are totally unsurpassed! Your flare for sprinkling humour throughout your drama is incredible. It keeps us engaged and entertained with meaningful analogies leaving us wanting more and more. I for one will be sad to see this story end in only 2 more chapters; I will miss it and these characters in particular as I did when I finished To Kill a Mockingbird.

I will love anything you write, but I would be partial to a story set in ancient Gaul. See you next Saturday!

    8. I have to agree with everyone else this was another wonderful chapter I love the banter they have together,im going to realy miss this story but look forward to your next I vote for historical pps.
