    The Garden

    Bette exhaled.

She was doing fine without Tina she had lied to herself. That lie blew up in her face the moment she saw Tina outside of the ice cream shop and it kept blowing up in her face each time she felt the blonde’s presence and especially when she came within eyesight of her.

On the plane ride home, Bette decided she couldn’t stay in limbo anymore. It was too hard on her. But she hadn’t a clue of what the fuck she was supposed to do next. She still loved Tina. That was made obvious the second she saw her but her heart was shattered. The things Tina said before she left, her actions, her disregard all had to be addressed if they were ever going to have a chance to move forward. Bette wasn’t sure if that was even possible. She wasn’t sure if that was even something she wanted. All she did know was the last few days were emotionally draining. It felt so good holding Tina and inhaling her and tasting her and being touched by her. Better than she remembered. However, it was also too much for her heart and she didn’t know what to do. She missed Tina so much but being near her was agonizing.

Bette thought about Tina halfway mentioning she had a therapist when she was trying to explain about her talk with Candace. Bette wondered how long she’d been seeing this therapist. Did she start going before she left? Bette didn’t like not knowing what was happening in Tina’s life. Going to therapy was big news. How did they let it get to this point? Bette sighed. Maybe she was being too hard on Tina. If she was being truly honest with herself, their predicament was not entirely Tina’s fault. Bette played a significant role as well. Maybe she needed to talk to someone too.

Bette rolled her eyes and threw her keys on the table. She walked slowly towards her bedroom, taking note of where her KiKi Smith used to hang wondering if Tina was looking at it right now. Bette dropped her head.

“Alexa, play Run to You by Whitney Houston.”

“Playing Run to You by Whitney Houston from The Bodyguard soundtrack,” Alexa replied.

The Bodyguard was one of Tina’s favorite movies. Bette couldn’t remember how many times they curled up on the couch in their favorite position watching it. She fell back on the bed and stared at the ceiling as Whitney crooned.
