Chapter 219
Narration of First Lady Tina Kennard Porter
I am sitting in Ella’s nursery watching her sleep. There are so many thoughts going round in my head and I know that when Bette is feeling overloaded with the weight of the world on her shoulders she finds solace in here watching our sweet and utterly innocent daughter. I guess I see why she comes here – it is peaceful and just watching Ella sleeping is such a simple pleasure. She really is the centre of my world – Ella and Bette – two beautiful females who I could not survive without.
The conversation with Carmen and Helena has just produced so many contradictory thoughts. Like the good memories I have of such a stunning and so misunderstood country, like the worst memory in my life – killing two people – one of whom has loomed over my relationship with Bette right from the first. On paper their idea is just great but the practicalities are so vast – not least of which is the reaction of one Bette Porter who will have so many objections and that will be after she hit’s the roof. The Peabody Porter Foundation has done so much already and it could make a real difference in Afghanistan.
But I just don’t see how I could go there in the capacity that Carmen and Helena have suggested. But for God sake I was a bloody war reporter for some many years – I didn’t think twice about going into territory that was incredibly dangerous. I look at Ella and in an instant I see the reason I cannot take that attitude any more – I have a daughter who needs me and a wife who I love and who I need as much as she needs me. When I did all the heroic stuff in the past I was 10 years younger and had nothing to worry about. Now I have a daughter who is the culmination of so many dreams I had from being at school.
Ella rolls over and opens her eyes and looks straight at me. I go over and pick her up – needing to hold her more than she probably needs me to hold her. She smiles at me and reaches for my hair – for once getting it first time

I can see the scene “‘Oh Baby, I forgot to mention that on top of everything you’ve learned, I’m going to travel across war zones, probably the ones where I shooted your fiancee. BY the way, did you do the laundry?”
Wow…nice blow out…This will be great to follow up…Lets hope Tina does not tell Bette her news…that will not go over well…
Hey Lady, each one of you deserved the honors that were given to each one of you. You should get a Metal or pin to show off. The past sometimes is a bitter pill. Kit is angry because she doesnt want her dirty laundry and the rest of her family’s Tina didnt cause this,yet it keep throwing crap at her. That is a good way to really get Bette started. Do we know what Tina will do with the money from the book, No but knowing Tina it will go to a under privilize country for the Fountation. Ookay love this thanks
Absolutely wonderful chaper – intense and realistic how the recriminations flow – Kit’s a fool for going after Tina on this – IMO this is all Melvins doing.

I hope you never give into your ideas to end this. This is by far one of my all time favorite stories. I can’t imagine growing up without a mother, but I hope Bette can step back and realize Kit was only a kid herself when Elizabeth left. Also, Kit better snap the hell out of it. Playing the sperm card AND blaming Tina for writing a biography that Melvin wants written!?! Great update. Can’t wait for more.
Boy, Kit bringing up the grandmother thing was wild! Clearly no one had a conversation with her to see how she was going to feel about being the aunt instead of the grandmother. Doesn’t excuse her constant blaming Tina for all their family shit though. Someone needs to tell Kit to get over herself. Tina’s a saint for not getting angry at Kit. Oh, and I do not think that the First Lady would ever be given the go ahead to take a trip to Afganistan the way that country is now. Not unless it became the 51st state! The Secretary of State, yes. First Lady, no way in hell.

I agree w/ Kit 100%. there are some things that are better left untold. And now Bette is blaming Kit for her mother leaving, but let’s remember Kit was a child herself. It’s difficult blending families are there was bound to be some resentment on Kit’s part. But let us not forget that it can not be the childs responsibilty to work through the problems….that’s what adults are for. So Melvin and Elizabeth were both weak parents and now the sister bond shared b/w Bette and Kit may be damaged beyond repair. Why is Tina writing this book again? PPS!

come on Kit drop it she is your niece as she is Bette daughter, her daughter. don’t bring that grand mother thing up, its not the right time.if she wants Bette in her life she better leave Tina alone Bette won’t let anybody attack her wife. wow I feel so bad for Bette. Too bad her mom died, because I was wondering if the woman would make an appearance now that her daughter is the president. You know how family members tend to come out of the woodwork with a famous family member. but she will never get to meet her. this chapter was excellent. I’m glad you resumed.
can’t wait for your next chapter! what a page turner this chapter was. am hoping for tina to work her magic on betteso that kit can stop being so awful to tina.

Great update ally!! the past is never easy to deal with and i can understand everyone pov, give bette sometime and let tina and lee work the magic bette will come around in time… as for the book well not sure but i think tina could manage to put positive spin on by explaining everything without being judgemental… :)
Hey AllyE, Many thansk for anothe wonderful addition to this magnificent advernture. I just adore how the lives and loves of these characters are brought to live by your awesome talent. It is hard to believe that you are are Chapter 219 and nothing seems old or repetitive. Brilliant!! It was torture for Tina to witness Bette’s reaction to the truth as it was painful to see how this relevation affected Bette. I do hope that these bridges can be mended in the future. Maybe a little time will clear the air and reunite the family. I’m hoping for that. Many, many thanks for this amazing adventure. Your Loyal Fan.

wow heavy overload past, poor Bette it’s going to affect her for many chapters to come, Kit is being unfair Tee has nothing to do with it, but Kit really can be very unreasonable at times. I think that Kit may realize the pain that Bette’s mom leaving has caused Bette all these years. I wonder if it wasn’t another reason she dove into the bottle. I hope that Bette can find forgiveness for Melvin and Kit because losing more of her family will only end up hurting her. However, Kit needs to suck it up and take her lumps no matter how painful. As usual your story is AMAZING and BRILLIANTLY written.
