“So can I say that I am your steady girlfriend ?” her tone is amused.
“Yes “
“So – why do you get so scared ?”
“Because of how deeply I fall, because of how often I have been hurt”
She lifts my face up with her finger .
“I cannot say I’ll never hurt you but I will say to you that I love you.
I have never felt the way for another person that I feel for you. I want this to last – having you in bed with me – doing all the stuff we’ve been doing – its wonderful Tina “
She kisses me softly and strokes the hair away from my face.
“I’m scared too – I am scared that I will forget what your lips taste like, scared that I will forget your smell , that I will forget the exact colour of your eyes and the way that they light up when we look at each other and how your pupils dilate when I’m making love to you “
I kiss her again – when she end the kiss I pull her backwards.
“Now what shall we do for the next hour honey ?”

As much as I love and respect Shane I am not going to take any sort of hassle about Bette and I – but not until she says something first – she does.
“Can I ask you something ?”
“Of course “
“What happens when the two of you split up ?”
“I don’t want to split up with her – we are very happy. Shane this is only partly any of your business but I will spell it out . I love her and she loves me. I now I have said all of this to you the other night but we are both single, we are very, very and I mean VERY attracted to one another and we are hurting no one. This does not hurt the administration because neither of us want it to. If I thought for a second – no – let me rephrase that – if I thought for a nano-second that I hurting Bette or the White House or a regime that I passionately believe in – I would resign and walk away from this country. THAT is how much I love Bette Porter and everything that she stands for”

Damn! Poor Shane, there’s very little that’s more painful than unrequieted, unspoken love. Hope she’ll be able to keep functioning and find someone of her own. Been wondering where you’d got to, hoping for rapid improvement, life and computer-wise.
“Monday, Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way…” I had a fleeting thought earlier that Shane might see Bette as more than a boss and a friend. I can understand Shane’s jealousy too. I mean, she was Bette’s main woman so to speak for so long until Tina came along. As for the real life problems, I hope they continue to improve.
Repeat after me: the word for today is “awkward!” I can’t wait to see how this plays out in your excellent story. More importantly, I hope life cuts you some slack soon. All the best.

Loving your writing, was giggling along as usual (particularly liked “we could call this scene study in confusion.”) and then you got me all subdued and pensive. Poor Shane. Cool twist – very interested to see how it plays out. I agree with the Carmen suggestion and trust you to work Shane’s feelings out in a suitably slow and thorough fashion. I adore this story and missed it while you were away, however your happiness is obviously more important than slaking the apparently infinite desire of your readers. Update when you can and be good to yourself. Thanks for writing.
