The New Year’s Resolution That Changed My Life!
“Fucking irresponsible fucking park people can’t fucking fix a fucking water fountain?!”
Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath Bette wanted to cry. All she wanted was an hour without stress. That’s all she was asking for, just one hour. Was that too much to ask?
She sat down on the bench to decompress before continuing on her journey for ice cream. Closing her eyes she bent her head back, allowing the sun’s warmth to calm her as well as to dry her hair and shirt.
Just as she could felt a sense a calm start to make its way back into her body, something crashed into her legs and she heard a giggle. Jumping in surprise, Bette opened her eyes to a beautiful little girl with black
hair and the prettiest blue eyes.
“Well, hi there.” Bette smiled as she ruffled the wavy hair.
The little girl couldn’t have been more than two or three,so Bette quickly looked around, expecting a parent to be close by. Not seeing anyone looking their way, she bent over and picked the little girl up.
“Where did you come from, hmmm?” After the initial giggle the toddler seemed quiet and laid her head down on Bette’s shoulder. “Aw, are you tired?” Bette looked around again, and not seeing anyone headed for the playground. “Who are you here with, hmmm?” she asked gently, not really expecting an answer.
As she got closer to the playground she noticed a young couple frantically looking around. They both seemed to spot Bette as the same time, and Bette could see the woman’s body literally sag with relief as they may their way toward Bette.
As they got closer Bette started to adjust the child so she could hand her over to the man, whose black hair and blue eyes spoke of who he was in this little girl’s life. But, just as she moved her arm, she heard a
burp, and then a groan as the little girl threw up all over the front of her shirt.
“Oh my God!!” The woman looked mortified as she reached Bette. “I am so sorry!” She reached for the little girl.
Bette winced, trying not to shutter at the thought of the baby puke that was now making its way down the front of her shirt.

God Seahurst, a post from you always is the sweetest treat!!! You never disappoint and I’m always thrilled to read you. That was perfect! Funny how even though she only appeared at the very end, Tina had the power to turn this apparently shitty day into the best journey ever… For Bette, and for us readers as well! Thank you!!!!
